Wouldn't Captain America, Secret Avenger from Civil War be more thematically appropriate?

Hm that version also features Battlestar on the divided common so I preferred to add a "pure" Steve Rogers representation.

Why Mysterio?

edit:. I think I get it on second thought. I guess he is the one controlling the heroes?

Yep, he's the one controlling the heroes. And the others are just heroes that tend to be mind-controlled, either in the comics or the movies. Of course, you'd need to mentally change the scheme so that it fits Mysterio's nefarious plans...

X-Men: The Beginning

Scheme: Anti-Mutant Hatred (X-Men)

Mastermind: Magneto (X-Men)

Villains: Brotherhood (Core), SHIELD Elite (Civil War), Marauders (DC), MLF (DC)

Henchman: Sapien League, Sentinels

Heroes: Cyclops (Core), Jean Grey (DC), Iceman (DC), Angel (DC), Beast (X-Men)

For this one you might have to use your imagination a bit. This is trying to get back to the old school X-Men, most apparent in the Hero setup and the Mastermind. I thought the Anti-Mutant Hatred scheme would work well. It's not about Magneto trying to stir up the Hatred, but rather causing it through his actions. The Sapien League is the Anti-Mutant mobs, and Sentinels were created in response to the growing fear.

The Brotherhood is classic X-Men villains, but why SHIELD Elite you ask? Using our imaginations, these guys represent the government forces trying to round up and imprison mutants. So not specifically the characters they used, but more of a general government team sort of sense. Mauraders and MLF were basically thrown in there to fill in the Villain groups for up to 5 players.

This setup just shows that, if you like the X-men then you must get both X-men and Dark City (and perhaps Secret Wars volume 1 for Magik, Old Man Logan and Apocalyptic Kitty Pryde).

I'm Not Kidding: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Champions_(1975_team)
And: https://www.comicbooked.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/Hawke...
Scheme: Dark Alliance (Secret Wars Vol 1)
Masterminds: Dr. Doom (base set), Magneto (base set) as second mastermind
Special: After you defeat a Mastermind, give a random Horror to EACH Mastermind (X-men)
Villains: Brotherhood (base set), Four Horsemen (Dark City)
Henchmen: Doombots (base set)
Heroes: Hercules (Civil War), Iceman (Dark City), Black Widow (base set), Ghost Rider (Dark City), Angel (Dark City)

And speaking of anti-human hatred...perhaps one day we'll get the following masterminds, so that we'd have even more thematic setups:

Bastion, leading the Human Council (Bolivar Trask, Graydon Creed, William Stryker, Steven Lang)

Donald Pierce, leading The Reavers

I really appreciate the list in the above file. It introduced me to the "Ou La La-Badoon" storyline which combines the Fantastic Four, the Xmen, and Arkon. I dont see many opportunities to include Arkon in a thematic setup so this is the one I played and really enjoyed. In the story, the leader, Brother Badoon, kidnaps Arkon and Mr Fantastic. They are held in a castle that the Xmen and The Invisible Woman must storm in order to save the kidnapped heroes. I used Murderworld villains to represent the obstacles to entering the castle. The Badoon also created cyborg creatures called the "Monsters of Badoon" to fight their battles. I used Zola's creations with their Abomination keyword and the Savage Land Mutates to represent these beasts.
With all this background in mind:

Bachelor in Distress

Scheme: X-cutioner's Song (Dark City) with Arkon (Secret Wars Vol 2) as the hostage
Mastermind: Arnim Zola (Captain America 75th)
Villains: Zola's Creations (Captain America 75th) & Murderworld (Xmen)
Henchman: Savage Land Mutates (base)
Heroes: Cyclops (base set), Storm (base set), Nightcrawler (Dark City), Invisible Woman (F4), Colossus/Wolverine (Xmen).

Alternate options: Substitute Mr Fantastic (F4) for Arkon. Substitute any version of Kitty Pride, Cyclops, Colossus, and Wolverine for the heroes.

This is a themed setup to utilize the "New Fantastic Four" consisting of Black Panther, Storm, Thing, and Human Torch. I decided to use a zombie themed story "Absolutely No Way to Win". In this issue, the New F4 take on a Zombified Skrull F4 in addition to the Power Cosmic Zombified Heroes including Hulk, Henry Pym, Iron Man, Luke Cage, Spiderman, & Wolverine. During the course of the story the Power Cosmic zombies begin to devour the world. I utilized the Fountain of Eternal Life as it give every character the Fateful Resurrection key term which I felt symbolized the zombies well. I used a custom villain group to be a little more thematic, but you could substitute the typical Heralds of Galactus if you prefer. I used the Galactus Mastertermind to simulate the devouring of the planet in the story. I used spider infected as I wanted a henchman villain that wasnt too difficult and the "infected" part seemed thematic with a zombie infection. I thought this was going to be very hard but was surprised to have beaten it on my first attempt. Feedback welcome.

Absolutely No Way to Win
Scheme: The Fountain of Eternal Life (Secret Wars Vol 2)
Mastermind: Galactus (F4)
Villains: Skrulls, Custom Villain Group consisting of Hulk from Avengers (Villains), Iron Man from Avengers (Villains), Antman from Avengers (Villains) x1, Spiderman from Spiderfriends (Villains) x1, Luke Cage from Defenders (Villains) x2, Wolverine from Uncanny Avengers (Villains) x2
Henchman: Spider-Infected (Secret Wars Vol 2)
Heroes: Storm (Base), Black Panther (Secret Wars Vol 1), Black Panther/Storm (Civil War), Thing (F4), HumanTorch (F4)

This one is very loosely based on the Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions video game.

In the game, Mysterio steals an artifact called "The Tablet of Order and Chaos". While Spider-Man tries to stop him, the tablet shatters and its fragments are scattered around various dimensions (Amazing, Ultimate, Noir and 2099). Naturally, different villains from each dimension find the fragments, which increase their powers. It is up to the Spider-Men of each dimensions to retrieve the fragments.

I'm using the Portals to the Dark Dimensions scheme, but imagine the the twists represent tablet fragments instead of portals. I've also taken some liberties with the heroes, because some are not available (Spider-Man 2099) and the game only has 4 Spideys.

Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions
Scheme: Portals to the Dark Dimensions (Base)
Mastermind: Mysterio (Paint the Town Red)
Villains: Sinister Six (Paint the Town Red), Goblin's Freakshow (Noir)
Henchmen: Mandroid (These are meant to represent the Public Eye drones from the 2099 universe) (Civil War)
Heroes: Spider-Man (Base), Spider-Man Noir (Noir), Symbiote Spider-Man (Dark City), Ultimate Spider-Man (Secret Wars, v1), Peter Parker (Civil War)

Here's two more amusing set-ups:

Double Whammy

Mastermind: Galactus (Fantastic Four)
Scheme: Nuclear Armageddon (X-Men)

Double Whammy, Redux

Mastermind: Madelyne Pryor (Secret Wars, Vol. 1)
Scheme: Turn the Earth's Citizens into Demons (Dark City)

For both of these set-ups the villains, henchmen and heroes don't matter as much, but to enforce the double-trouble aspect of the set-up, use villain groups that contain heroes in them (like X-Men '92, Superhuman Registration Act, anything from Villains, etc...) and those use those heroes in the line-up.

Back in my day we used to have to play Galactus with "Crush Them With My Bare Hands". We also had to walk uphill to the HQ, both ways!

If you don't want to do Organised Crime Wave ('cos who does?) you could substitute Sinister Ambitions, I had quite a tight game against Kingpin with that scheme the other day (though I was using the Tyrant Mastermind Horror).

Also, a fun one for Punisher is Master of Tyrants -the Masterminds in the Villain deck combo nicely with Hail of Bullets- you could use Goblin, Mysterio, and Carnage (or if you're feeling brave, one of the Zemo masterminds!).
