THe undead ability states: Pass Influence 3 test or the Raging Vampire will suffer no loss during this battle. On the card it has 3 fight, 3 study, and 3 sneak. (no value for influence) So, is it an influence test or a study test? If it's an influence test, why would it have a 3 study value?

Also, assuming I fail the influence test, I have no option but to escape right (retreat)? Kinda lame that I have 10 fight and can't even scratch the Vampire if I fail a one time test, which I don't even have enough dice to pass. . .

Also, the sneak value is really high for a lot of undead, just seems kind of arbitrarily high to force you to retreat.

Are undead meant to be roadblocks then?

thanks

Alex

Yes, it should be a Study test.

If you don't know how to kill a Vampire, then all the strength in the world won't harm it. You need to have studied up on monsters to be able to recognise and deal with it.

Are we sure? This page and quote from Tristan say it should be an influence test and that the study icon is a typo?

[q="mntee"]-the Raging Vampire as the text "... perform an Influence 3 test..." but as a study value of 3 an no influence value (like other ennemy with similar ability). Which test is required?

It should be an Influence test, this is a misprint.

And confirmed, it is supposed to be influence.

First post after the questions.

My guess, if you can't beat their ability to mesmerize you into a trance, you can't fight them.

Now that the “what” part of the question is out of the way, it is time to address the “why”. One obvious game-mechanical reason is that the classes should have some form of balance, hence there must be some things that cannot simply be beaten by maximising the Fight value alone; otherwise the Warrior would have been overpowered compared to the other classes.

Thematically from an alternative perspective to the very reasonable Study argument:

If we don't pass the influence test perhaps we can assume our character is under the thrall of the vampire and cannot for all the will in the world damage him/her.

Either way vampyres [thick accent pending] shouldn't be easy to eradicate.

EDIT ninja fail on my part - Justin already posted this in his response and I didn't see it on first pass!
