Hello,

I am brand new to the world of miniature and table-top skirmish/RPG games. I have a copy of Blood Rage that does not get played anymore and I was curious if it would supply enough minis/variety to play Frost Grave?

Thanks for any help with this!

You would be struggling with archers but you would have the basis of a war band with blood rage minis. You would need 2 shamans for your wizards.

Hopefully this is not hijcacking the thread, but what about Mythic Battles Pantheon? There are over 100 miniatures related to Greek Mythology.

You can use figures from most anywhere really. The main thing is that you will have to be able to have enough different poses of models in order to distinguish between the different warband members. There are several different types, like thug, thief, archer, crossbowman, infantryman, man at arms, tracker, ranger, knight, templar, barbarian, and more. Each type has their own stat line and will be different. So it's important to be able to distinguish for yourself and your opponent, what each model is supposed to represent.

Of course, if you don't have enough variety in models, you might distinguish them by colors of their bases. So one of the same model might have a blue base and be an infantryman, while another of the same model might get a green base and be a man at arms. But of course, you can have more than one of the same type, so you can have multiple thugs or archers etc. So ultimately, you need to be able to distinguish the different types, as well as the different ones of the same type, because thug 1 and thug 2 start out with the same stat line, but thug 1 might get his move boosted by the Fleet Feet spell and move +2, while thug 2 might have taken 3 wounds. So you need to distinguish them on the board, because there is a warband sheet that you will fill out with all the members of your warband and their starting stats and make changes to them accordingly during the game.

Also, having miniatures of some sort to represent the various creatures that may come out. They don't always come out, but each time you pick up a treasure, you roll a d20 and on a 16+, you roll on the creature chart in the rulebook to see what comes out and then roll randomly to figure out what board edge it comes in from. Sometimes you will go a game without any showing up, and sometimes you will have a few show up. Also, there are some scenarios where a creature/monster is already in place for the scenario, besides the ones that may come up when picking up treasure.

You can also agree with your opponent (or supply both sides) to play without miniatures from certain types, particularly if you just want to try out the game. (Song of Blade and Heroes and Savage Worlds are other inexpensive miniature skirmish games you can use your existing miniatures with.)

While most tabletop gamers are fine mixing and matching sculpts and "mismatched" miniatures, here's an article of the artist, Adrian Smith, and sculptors of Blood Rage. Do some searching and maybe you'll have luck finding theirs or similar miniatures that have the Frostgrave types you're missing. http://www.tabletopgamingnews.com/blood-rage-previews-new-ar...
