Besides the gateway games for development pros who have not been exposed to modern gaming, what "serious" economic and development simulation games would you recommend as of potential interest?

I like 1830 and perhaps a civilization game. Any ideas?

Thanks for this suggestion.

The gamers on the organizing committee discussed this with library management. We decided that, as fun and funny as Junta might be, it sets the worst possible tone for sponsored gaming sessions. :shake:

Thanks. Probably not something our librarians would consider suitable for serious development professions.

Thanks for the suggestion. Fortunately, the popular view is that that sort of national behavior lies in the past.

An accessible Civ game is The Golden Ages. It's a simplified Civ game that can be played in an hour with experienced players. A good introduction to find out if Civ games are of interest without embarking on a 3-4 hour game.

I had previously recommended Supremacy 2020 and wanted to give a few more reasons why it should be considered by your committee.

1. ISIS attacked the company website over the game. How many games piss off ISIS? http://www.commandpostgames.com/isis-strikes/

2. The 2015 game predicted Brexit and broke the U.K. away from the EU as a playable faction.

3. The US military is interested in Supremacy 2020 as a teaching aid: https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1534903/supremacy-2020-unde...

I'm a big fan of the game although I've house ruled some changes to terminology regarding Loans and Bonds. I would be fascinated to hear the opinions of World Bank employees.

For teaching economics I will suggest:

Prêt-à-Porter

It was specifically designed to teach economics, you can read the blog of the development of the game.

Thanks! Looks great. Too bad it's so expensive. I'll look for a local owner.

I absolutely second this. There is no game that better illustrates international banking activities than this. Way too fitting to ever be accepted. But noteworthy nonetheless.
