Now this may just be me...

When I have time for another scenario, but things are a bit rushed, I can remember most of the set-up pretty easily. Cards out of play, location layout, that sort of thing. The one thing I have a mental block on is the encounter sets. So I am presented with

Which I find a bit of a bind. So I made my own little organiser sheet. For info, the * marks the first time a set appears, which helps me find the cards in my system. A circle means it starts outside the main encounter deck. I also put in a few reminders on the right. From which you will deduce I play on easy.

It works, but it looks horrible. There is a similar file in the LOTR game, although I think it only goes as far as Khazad Dum.

So, assuming it isn't just me...

would anyone (considerably more artistic than me) like to make something that performs a similar function, but actually looks nice? And maybe updating it once in a while?

I have my playmat, and my nice cloth bag (thanks, Mrs Bobble Hat) and my card stands and my organiser box and my card display binders and my deck boxes... and my scrotty piece of paper.

Many thanks

Ian

I threatened to make something like this in an earlier thread, but I haven't done it yet. I'll be delighted if someone beats me to the punch.

Ah, actually, I was just going to make an index of encounter set titles to symbols, but I might as well include what you have here as well. What do the asterisks in your chart mean?

FFG's insistence on identifying encounter sets by symbology is one of my biggest complaints. LotR has a hundred different, very tiny, symbols. Something like your chart is invaluable.

Makes sense from an internationalization standpoint, but then there's all this text....

I would go further in general about FFG's used of symbols (this includes other product lines)--it is inconsistent! I am in general with the use of symbols is fine but the position, layout and background for it change all too frequently. When doing a quick sort it's not a scan of one corner consistently--it's "Oh for this card type I look over here in this color background in this style".

Symbology should also be

* Consistently placed
* Consistently colored
* Consistently sized
* Preferably good for those of us who are getting older and need reading glasses that look like coke bottle bottoms.

By the way, I can lay this table out using LaTeX and post. It'll be later today.

Can't find a source for all the symbols. So far all I've found is this: https://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/140007/arkham-horror-icon.... Does anyone have a copy of the icons from Dunwich?

I understand the desire for this information, but isn't it a little redundant when there is other information in the sheet like add X token to the chaos bag, include X encounters if Y is recorded in your campaign log etc.

I mean, I like the idea, I'm just not sure how well it works with this particular game? Wouldn't it be easier to just use the sheet?

I tend to remember that stuff. and the bits I forget are on my sheet.

But as I say, it may just be me.

So this is an Encounter Set list I created that may or may not be useful (note that it's a lo-res image not the actual file):
