That's a Palm Pilot on the left, and a pink iPod mini on the right. Yes, I've been doing BGTG that long!

The latest episode of my wargame podcast is now posted. I'm now home after my months living & working in France, and this was a wonderful topic to coincide with my departure. I'd love to go back!

Great show Mark! Wargames to Go is my favourite gaming podcast alongside Wild Weasel. You have a nice conversational style and a good voice for radio. Looking forward to the next one.

+1, great podcast - thanks Mark!

You mentioned Frederic Bey's Vae Victis game Poitiers 1356 et Formigny 1450, which was actually the first of 16 games in the Au fil de l'épée series covering 30+ medieval battles. The most recent four games, covering nine battles, are full-on die-cut wargames (Vae Victis and Ludifolie folio games, available from GMT), so none of the do-it-yourself muss and fuss.

In fact, the recent entries are beautifully-produced games with great maps, counters, etc. Also, the rules have been nicely refined over the 15 or so years the series has been out (and you can use the current rules with any entry in the series). The combat rules now flow very well and, to your point, match the elegance of the rest of the system (while still including a satisfying amount of chrome).

For my money, you can't beat Au fil de l'épée for one great, easy to learn system that allows you to game so many different interesting situations.

Oh, good to know. Is the latest set of rules posted somewhere? I looked at that series, and now I'm waiting for the next one to appear in Vae Victis.

So I'm listening to Mark's other podcast - Boardgames to Go - episode 175 - and in it he interviews one of his friends who's a eurogamer who got into wargames.

As we're always going on about new blood for the hobby, here's the perspective of someone who actually did enter - Very enlightening

Can I recommend Juliet Barker's Agincourt and Conquest to your reading list?

They are focused on the later stages of the war but they still give a complete story. Most important is that they are both some of the better books I have read on this subject.

Do play Warriors of God when you get a chance!

Very fun game, right up your alley. Even plays well solo, in my view.
