I'd like to play this with my 7 year old, but he lacks the attention span for it. Does anybody have a good way to shorten the game?

You could start the game with 6 hero cards in hand and end the game after you defeat your first general.

Start the game in a mid-game mode.

Randomly discard 2 of the Generals, Starting in Mid-War for that.

Do normal setup placement for minions, but then do 4 more cards. Overruns would appear accord to the cards. Then place 5 additional Taint tokens, by drawing cards and using the locations of the first 5 locations to place a Taint tokens (do not place minions or advance Generals for these cards.

Then randomly pick the remaining 2 Generals. Place 1 3 spaces from Monarch City and give him minions to bring his location to 3. Then the last General is placed 2 spaces from Monarch City, also bringing his minions on this location to 3.

Remove the Special cards and shuffle them - then discard 4 of them to the box. (The are considered already spent to defeat the 2 Generals that are not in this game.) Then shuffle the remaining Special cards into the Hero Deck.

Each Hero starts with 8 Hero cards. Then they draw 1 Mission and it is considered completed. (If you want an easier game, draw 1 additional Mission to be considered finished.)

After set up reshuffle the Darkness Spreads cards.

That should do it - you have a shorter game, but hopefully still as intense.

Thanks for playing.

Richard

Try the game in solomode & have him move the pieces, draw the cards, etc...if he walks away then continue on by yourself. At 6 will he really know he's NOT playing the game properly? Recommended age is 13+

Maybe try playing Dungeon! with him?
