If your first move captures a piece, can you place that piece as your second move?

What's the object of the game? Capture the opposing king, or deliver "checkmate"? If the latter, how is checkmate defined? Are you allowed to deliver check on the first move? Are you allowed to take two moves to get out of check? May you expose your king to check on the first move if you get it out on the second? I don't know Marseilles chess nor Seirawan chess.

May you drop a pawn in hand onto the first rank? Then how will said pawn be allowed to move? May you drop a pawn in hand onto the last rank? How would you handle that?

When a promoted piece is captured, does it remain promoted?

If you are able to capture en passant, may you do so on your second move? If you advance a pawn two squares on your first move, and an opposing pawn would be able to capture it e.p. then will the opponent still be able to capture it that way after your second (different piece) move? If a player advances a pawn two squares, making it subject to en passant, and for the second move moves another piece onto the square the opposing pawn would move to in order to capture en passant, does that mean the opposing pawn could capture your pawn and your piece with the same move?

May you mark time by returning the piece you moved on your first move back to the square it just left?

If your first move is to castle, and your second is a drop, on which square should the dropped piece go?

Some of these ideas have actually been worked out in Dragonfly and Cyclix (and without any need for David's questions for that matter).
