Welcome to the Solo Terraformer Challenge for 2017 AUGUST

This is a continuation of the year-long contest started here: Solo Terraformer Challenge 2017.

In this challenge, participants play Terraforming Mars solo and post their results to this thread. They gain points in this challenge based on their results. There are four ways of scoring points (called Terraforming Rating, TR, in this challenge):

1. Beating a highscore gives 1 TR. Each corporation has a highscore, which is decreased by 2 points every midnight (Swedish time). A player posting a higher score for any corporation than the current highscore replaces the old highscore with his own new score.

2. Keeping a highscore gives 1 TR every midnight.

3. Claiming a milestone gives 5 TR to the first claimer, 4 to the second, 3 to the third, and so on. New milestones are randomly selected each new month, and are described at the bottom of this post.

4. At the end of the month, each award gives 5 TR to the winner(s) of that award and 2 TR to the follow-up. The awards are described at the bottom of this post.

At the start of each new month, all highscores are reset. The TR of each player, however, is not reset. The player with the most TR at the end of December 2017 will gain a lot of GeekGold and possibly something more TR-related Several GeekGold prizes will be awarded for different hidden accomplishments throughout the year.

NOTE: The terraforming rating recorded in this thread is the TR earned in this month.

I intend to write a storyline which is dictated by the progressions on these lists, where every day represents one year, and every month represents one generation. At the end of each generation, the holders of the highscores are chosen as the corporations' respective CEO in the storyline.

RULES:
To post a highscore, you must have completed the solo version of Terraforming Mars according to the written rules. Take extra note:
* You completed all three terraforming tracks (oxygen, temperature, and oceans) before the end of the 14th generation. (see policies below)
* You started at 14 TR.
* You placed 2 neutral cities and greeneries at the start of the game.
* You did not use any drafting variant.
* You did not use any Milestones or Awards.
* You included all Corporate Era cards.
* You started with 0 - not 1 - production of all 6 resources.
Other rules:
* You must post the score on this forum the same day, or at most 2 hours after your played the game.
* The game must have started and ended this month for it to be a valid score.
* You may not use prototype expansions or unreleased game content in this challenge. Hellas & Elysium game boards may be used.

If you want to aim for one or two specific highscores, you may choose your 2 corporation cards freely, as long as you do this prior to revealing the 10 cards and placing the neutral cities and greeneries.

POLICIES: (or Recommended Practices)
* A simple mistake in the solo game is to miscount the number of generations played (forgetting to move the generation marker). To avoid this, please count out 52 cards (4*13) to use for the research phases throughout the game (the first generation has no research phase). Use them only for research phases, draw all other cards from the main deck. When the last cards are drawn, you are in the last generation.
* For scores over 120 points, please share some of the highlights of the session. A few key combos or starting hand cards that paved the way for your score.
* We do not find it good sportsmanship to abort solo sessions without good reason. We encourage every player to play the game to its end, even if it is evident that the session will not succeed, or that it will not conquer a highscore.
* Please mark your claimed score or milestone with bold.

Awards will be awarded at the end of each month, just before the Highscore lists are reset;
* Winners: Each current holder of a highscore will be awarded 5 additional TR.
* King of the Hill: The highest of all highscores will be awarded 5 additional TR.
* Entrepreneur: The player who made the highest initial highscore will be awarded 5 additional TR.
* Corporation Empire: The player with the most highscores will be awarded 5 additional TR (must have at least 2 highscores).
* Competitor: The player who defeated the most highscores will be awarded 5 additional TR.
For all the above awards, the runner-up will get 2 TR.

Milestones: The first player to claim a certain milestone gets 5TR. The next player to claim that same milestone gets 4TR, and so on. To claim an in-game milstone (the bottom two), you need to supply a photo of the board or relevant game component and include it in your post. NOTE: You need to win the session to claim a milestone, but you do NOT need to set a new highscore.
* Quality Controller: Set 3 110+ scores.
* Gardener: Beat 1 Ecoline score.
* Miner: Beat 2 scores with PhoboLog or Mining Guild.
* Metal Exporter: Have at least 8 titanium production.
* Herbalist: Have at least 15 plant production.

NEW THIS MONTH: There is nothing new this month. That's a first

See below the current highscores, the TR list, and an FAQ. Enjoy!

Should Herbalist be "Have at least 15 plant production." instead of energy production?

I was thinking 8 titanium production would be really difficult, but it looks like the maximum possible is 15, so it should be doable.

Also, just to confirm, for Quality Controller your scores don't have to beat the current score, right?

You have to set a score in this challenge, meaning you have to actually beat the current score, if there is one. However, some other milestones say "beat" scores, meaning that it wouldn't count claiming the first score of the month. That is not the case here, your first progress on this milestone can be without actually beating any score, since there is none to beat.

You can start now, because in Sweden, it is already August 1st, and the challenge depends on the Swedish timezone. Welcome!

First fail. got too greedy with titanium production, didn't finish terraforming. Had 10 titanium and 7 steel, failed by quite a few steps... should have ramped energy production earlier...

Well, I actually thought it was August 1 here and played a game as soon as I saw the post. I figured I needed to get in early if I was going to score any points at my current skill level.

I squeaked out a victory with Phobolog with only 66 points. It was one of my lowest scoring wins yet, but I was trying for the Titanium production and didn't find enough payoff in the deck. Had to hit the standard projects quite a bit down the stretch.

Ecoline - 96
+Herbalist (16 plant production)

Ice Asteroid and a subsequent gen1 greenery got this off to a terraform-y start. Took a few rounds, but by gen5 or 6 I had an okay-ish economy with steel production, Space Elevator, and Mohole Area.
I held both Mangrove and Protected Valley before long, which would have been nice at the Eastern equator area for another 3 VP city. As you can tell by the picture, I had quite lofty plans for up to 3 extra cities, but as both oceans and heat became a bit problematic (oceans would've actually been fine in the end, but I already had Water Import out by then), I had to scramble and was glad I at least got the Herbalist done.

Plant production breakdown:
Ecoline +2
Archaebacteria +1
Designed Microorganisms +2
Magnetic Field Dome +1
Kelp Farming +3
Bushes +2
Insects +5 (tags from Ecoline, EcoZone, Arctic Algae, Kelp, Bushes)
TOTAL 16

TR - 57 (+1 Magnetic Field Dome)
Greeneries - 17
Cities - 5 VP (Domed Crater)
Cards - 17 VP (3 Predators, 3 from EcoZone, 3 from Jovians)
TOTAL - 96

Saturn Systems 84 points.

I spent the endgame searching for one more plant production as I ended sadly with 14 production. This was a game where I feel like things are starting to come together for me and I am understanding the efficiency a bit better.

I have quite a slow start with not so good initial cards. I tried the "pay 1 energy production to gain 1 TR" card and the "pay 10Mc to gain 2 Heat production" card early. It is not that awesome but later i got the standard technology and "when ocean is placed you get 2 plants" card, so i prioritized standard aquafier and got lots of plants, while that explosion thing deal with the temperature.
I am loving 'standard technology' more and more every game!

Hard to pass up Soletta in opening hand. I should have had more faith in space tags; after I ditched Thorium Asteroid I pulled Vesta Shipyard the next draw and Ti production cards kept taunting me for the rest of the game.
