Specifically looking for android / google, but I didn't see a thread for these, so thought I would start one.

Someone at a game night had one that looked like a spinner with the circle split into sections based on the number of players, relative to the owner of the game. When you tapped it, it spun and selected a seat position to go first. I can't seem to find that one and have no idea what it was called.

I've tried several, but the only one I like so far is called "FirstPlayer" with a meeple icon. It generates a random question like, most recent birthday or person who most recently washed their hands or bought someone else a drink or shaved. Keeps it from being same-y, but I'm curious what other people do (besides choosing purely randomly or following the first player rules in the rulebook).

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apps.colec... is the one I use, for those curious. I'm really not just trying to advertise for the app - genuinely curious what other people use but figured I'd start the conversation with an example.

Stuff recommended below:

Chwazi (can also choose teams randomly):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tendadigit...
https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/chwazi-finger-chooser/id6896...

Die rolls (not an app)

My favorite "app" for this is a die or a set of dice.

I like Chawzi (crap name for Choosy but I managed to live with that)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tendadigit...
https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/chwazi-finger-chooser/id6896...

It's a little reliant on people to be able to hold their finger still. But it's quick and simple (and makes a nice pulse on deciding). The best part, however is that it supports selecting teams as well (say how many teams you need and it assigns people randomly to each).

You don't have to pre-choose the number of players.

Chawzi is essentially a better version of that app.

You don't do that in Chawzi...

I use Chwazi and never have to do anything beyond open the app and have everyone poke the phone screen. For simple "who goes first" that's all there is. I know it has lots of other options for teams, etc. but I've never needed to use that.

Oh, the final step is the now-traditional call of "hacks!" by everyone Chwazi did not pick to be first.

I was basing that on the listing. Fist line says: "First, setup the number of fingers that you desire to choose or how many groups you want to group, then place all your fingers on the screen and wait."

If that truly is not the case then I will check it out.

+1 to infinity on Chwazi.

I don't really like the 'answer-the-question' choosers (including Start Player, the physical version). I was offended with those early on when I dropped into a game and the guy next to me asked when was the last time I showered, before I realized he had the Start Player deck at hand.

Yes, my daughter insists I have it hacked to recognize my finger print and always pick me. I try explaining that it's impossible for the app to read my fingerprint through the touchscreen but it falls on deaf ears.

Ah, the setup is do you want fingers or groups, and how many picks (not total who will touch). The app then remembers your choice until you change it. Majority of the time, just keep it at 1 finger chosen of all those who touch the screen.

Cool thanks for the clarification. I'll check it out.
