I own nothing, should I buy Evolution Climate or Evolution 3rd + Climate Expansion?

Evolution Climate, will it combine with Plague (to be released)?
Evolution Climate, will it combine with Oceans (to be released)?

Depends on how important component quality is to you. In the 3rd edition of Evolution they took out the feed bags and replaced them with cardboard screens. It is a personal preference. Evolution Oceans is going to be its own animal in every sense so it will definitely be a stand alone game. You can play base Evolution if you guy Climate and remove some specific cards, It is all how important the bags are to you.

Oceans is going to be a standalone game and not playable with Climate.

You can play Climate as regular evolution without the climate aspect. That's the way to go over buying regular evolution and the conversion kit. Which is just going to give you everything that comes in Climate's box anyways.

If you buy just Evolution: Climate, not only can you play either the base game or the fuller Climate version (with minimal preparatory work before the game), but also you also have the option of buying an extra deck of base cards at any time directly from North Star Games; they nicely keep this available and inexpensive. That way you can keep one deck configured for playing Climate and a second deck ready for playing either the base game ... or use the money you've saved to buy Flight for combination with your second deck. (Flight and Climate are two different expansions which aren't intended to be played together, but give different play options.) The same may apply to Plague in the future.

It's a great system. I'd recommend just Evolution Climate to see well you like it, then expanding as soon as you find out your group appreciates it. And if you can get the edition before the 3rd, with the nice bags, that's what I'd recommend personally - but either will do nicely. Enjoy!

There is something to be said for price, though. The new printing of base-game Evolution goes for about $33 on Amazon versus Climate, which goes for $48. If you're not sure you're going to like the game, the savings might be worth it. Longterm, however, Climate will work out cheaper if you end up wanting both for the reasons stated above.

Plague is a distant dream at this point. It isn't yet in the product release schedule. When/if it is ever released, it will be compatible with Evolution, Climate, and Flight.

Haha! Just kidding. Here is the game play in a nutshell.

Players can play diseases in between any two players. Each round, the disease will spread to each adjacent species if they do not have resistance to that disease. A Carnivore will get the disease if they eat the infected species. So will all Scavengers who eat from the carnage.
