Since the basic game does allow an endless game play and also does not increase the difficulty (just more goals does not increase the difficulty, but only takes longer to fulfill) I will test the following variant:

Whenever you shuffle the obstacles discard, you remove one bullet from the bullets deck from the game.
Also, when starting level two and three, remove one bullet from the game.

This is a very simple variant to implement and it serves multiple purposes:
First of all the game will not run endless anymore. Finally you run out of Bullets and lose.
Second, the difficulty increases over time, since the amount of possible flying bullets grows smaller the longer you play.
And third: you can measure your final score in removed bullets. The fewer bullets removed, the better your result!

You're welcome to try this and post your results here!

Edit: added bullet removal when moving to the next level.

No, I didn't.
I dislike the big changes with the goals and that you can instantly lose, if the wrong goals show up in the beginning...

Thank you for introducing this variant. It sounds straightforward and easy to implement if you're looking for the extra challenge.

My immediate first impression is that you might notice a change in difficulty of some of the Bullet-related goals if/when show up later in the game. For example: "3 Bullets left in the Bullet deck" can become easier and "Enemies shot 8 bullets" can either be harder or take a longer time to complete.

Happy playtesting!

I totally agree with you that some goals change in difficulty to complete!
But as far as I see it, no goal is impossible to reach!

I just played a base game without baseball bats and lost on level three. Four bullets were out of the game and I lost because I couldn't fire the last bullet! Perfect!!

I changed a bit, too: when moving to the next level, remove a bullet, too!

What about putting the bullet in the obstacle discard instead of remove it from the game? The timer still and you keep the bullets in the game.

Would just add a bullet to deal with. It wouldn't act as a timer.

Are you still playing like this? Any updated observations to share?

Ya...you can deal with it, so it's not really a timer.
this adds some pressure at least...(Considering that the bullet are limited and you can lose if the stack is empty when you draw one).
..a dangerous bullet lost

Yes, but I did not play this lately.

Basically, it is still very easy beatable and not very much of a challenge.
I turned my attention to games more challenging...
