Having played 3 handed base games of runebound, its normally been the case that when the snake appears one of the three heros is not a candidate to take him on - their events were roided flesh rippers not fey faeries or money spinning tests, all their quests were the other side of the universe...that sort of thing.
But usually someone had a chance to have a fair fight. In unbreakeable bonds ALL heros must have been successful in the build up as Margath strength is 14 x no. of PLAYERS. In 5 goes solo Ive never got close, because a strong hero (who may have won in the base game) cant make up for a hero who cant inflict anything like 14 hits.
I wonder if where it says Margath strength is 14 x no of players it should be 14 x no. of players FIGHTING Margath. Ie in a 3 player game where 1 hero is pants you can attack with 2 heros and Margath is 24 strength even though there are 3 players.

Then why wouldn't just attack with the single strongest hero, therefore making Margath really weak?

Margath's sheet is 100% correct, his health is 14*n, where n is the number of players in the game

We played a 2 player game against Margarth last week and were able to win, only just both heroes had 1 hit point left.

We both felt we weren't ready to take him on but had some equipment and skills and couldn't risk his advance too much more. I think in this game you are never going to get everything done that you wanted but that's what makes it fun you are racing around trying to become stronger but having to make do with your progress once it's time to fight. Without this as part of the game there would be no real challenge.

Also another thing to remember only one player is facing to full rath of Margarth in the co op game as the Margarth token is only cast against the first player. We had found this final battle very tactical and made good use of the special token collected during the game to block damage and change who was the target of the Margarth token

If Margeth would only have n×14 health for each member in the party attacking, it would be possible to min/max and leave weakest player out the party before starting the fight. To ensure Margeths health equals #players x 14 it gives every hero the responsibility to develop their character in the best possible way to prep for a party group fight. Apart from that players also need to return on time an be a member of the same party.

And if one hero is pants then they have played badly and you deserve to lose. The point is that all heroes need to perform well in order to win the game.

Not in the base game, only one hero need be successful. I take the other points however, and in fact, I missed the point about the 7th token only being played against one player, so that will help.

That's because the base game is a competitive mode...

The fact that in solo game Margath always casts his special token, makes this hard a wee bit too hard. I was able to hit him for 5 damage for 3 turns and started the fight with 5 lore AND a skill that allowed be to block two dmg instead of 1, whenever I block, and yet I still lost. His unblockable surge 3 is deadly.

ok so playing the unbreakable bonds coop version doesnt change the villain rule that a hero once defeated becomes eliminated, but how about the rule that a villain heals full health after a hero is eliminated? so in a 3 hero party fighting margath first hero becomes eliminated and margath fully heals leaving the rest 2 heroes to have to encounter from the start 42points of margath's health? and if the second is killed 42 fresh healed life for the third hero?

No. Your party is all fighting him at the same time, round and round the table. PC1 tosses his tokens and fights that combat round, then when its over PC2 goes, and then PC3. Margath fights out of the common HP pool and the combat doesn't end until he dies or all the PCS dies, so there is no end of combat wherein Margath heals all the way up.
