I paid full retail for this and don't regret it. I fully agree that the price is high, but the components are great quality and it's a very pretty game. For us it's a definite keeper and will get played often, which is my only requirement for spending money on a game.
My wife and I feel like we got our money's worth out of it because we love the theme(and the game) so much but it is overpriced(in the U.S.) simply looking at the components in my opinion.
Current Amazon price for Patchwork: $21
Current Amazon price for Ticket to Ride*: $29
Current Amazon price for Clank!*:$43
Current Amazon price for Roll Player*: $49
Current Amazon price for Terraforming Mars*: $49
Current Amazon price for Runebouned(3rd edition)*: $51
Current Amazon price for Cottage Garden:$53
Current Amazon price for Blood Rage:$59
I just picked five other games(*) with significantly more costly component production costs than Cottage Garden all of which are less expensive. Blood Rage is the close(on my short list above) in terms of price but there is no comparison on component cost(Blood Rage has way more components).
Is it beautiful? Yes. Will some people not buy it because of component value vs. cost? Yes. That is unfortunate. I am not sure why it is currently being priced as it is. I often see this phenomenon with newer "niche" Euros.
Again, the price was worth it to me but I hate seeing such a nonsensical pricepoint because it will encourage "on the fence" people to invest elsewhere. To me this is a missed opportunity for Edition Spielwise.
