Don't look at it during the partial phases without proper eye protection.
During the total phase, look straight at it. It's safe.

Enjoy.

Should have bought some eclipse glasses. We went to the total eclipse in Turkey on our honeymoon (2006) and saw it from the city of Aspendos. We had spares and gave one to the parking attendant who gave us a space by the entrance! Actually we timed the wedding just to see it on honeymoon.

And if you ever get picked for one of those two truths an a lie, or need random personal facts if you ever try being on a TV show like Only Connect, there's one right there.

Of course I happen to know it was David's second attempt to see one, as I was there at the first. Pity about the 8/8 cloud cover. Though it did go dark of course.

This eclipse thing isn't a fact. It's just a prediction "scientists" have made. And scientists use to think the world was flat.

A friend of mine works at a library. Her morning so far (except rinse and repeat):

Caller: Hi, do you have ecli-
Her: We're out. We ran out 3 weeks ago.
Caller: Do you know any place I could...
Her: No, every place has been sold out for a week. We have instructions for a pinhole viewer on our website.
Caller: ........but I can't take pictures with that.
Her(mentally cursing person out): Sorry.

And interfere with Battle of the Network Stars? Do you rave, man, do you rave?

Bad joke one of my co-workers told me this morning:

How does the Sun cut its hair?

Eclipse!

(told ya it was bad)

Just got back from lunch. It's a bit eerie out there -- kind of like dusk with 95-degree heat. A few of the birds are acting weird.

Knowledge that the world is not flat goes back to before what you'd really call science. The Greeks even measured the size pretty accurately. But before that, the fact thst you can sail out of sight of land is a bit of a flat earth problem. And then if you sail a significant distance south (or north) the stars change was known a long way back too.

So, no, scientists did not used to think the world was flat.

Use a pinhole camera if you didn't get eclipse glasses, wait for totality, then look. Just make sure you know when totality starts & ends to avoid damage.

The camera isn't as cool as the glasses, but it's still damned cool.

But today they do because it is true!

Question: why are the flat moon, the flat earth and the flat sun all parallel?!

Riddle me that, so-called science guy.

All the light spots under the trees are little Eclipses.

I'm trying to pick up the spaceships before they go away.

We had a lot of clouds, but when the clouds were thin the ground was dusted with myriad little eclipses from the light through the trees.

I saw it in spurts but half the time I didn't even need my glasses because the clouds masked it. Annoying!

I didn't take a picture of the eclipse itself, but it produced a really cool shadow on the ground when filtered through the leaves of the tree in my driveway. You can see 100s of images of the sun partially blocked by the moon.
