With all this talk about Mint Works, I'm happy to announce that Justin Blaske will be this year's guest judge! Justin is a veteran of this contest and a very nice guy. I believe he has another game coming out soon as well. Who knows - perhaps one of these designs will catch his attention and will be the next game from Five24 Labs.

Please join me in welcoming Justin to the contest as a judge. Thanks for joining us again!

One small question, do you have to fit the game rules into the tin as well?

Yes, that's part of the design challenge - everything you need to play the game needs to fit in the tin.

Could be as a folded sheet, small booklet, on cards...

I tested Zombicide cards, and I was able to fit 66 cards in the tin. I then tried the cards I have from Print & Play Games (I have those for a different game), and I couldn't fit nearly as many. Does anyone know where I could get cards of the appropriate thickness?

I know that certain games like Mint Tin Aliens have fit up to 64 cards in their tins at the mini size. But it all comes down to the gsm of your cards.

Those are 320 gsm linen finish. Non-linen finish cards may allow for a few more but keep in mind that cards will loosen up with lots of shuffling (they are layered so do tend to thicken). Plus the inevitable and tragic bending (I have a really big DOH reaction when I accidentslly crease a card).

Good luck to sll! =)

I'm going to try to earn a solid behind kicking this contest.

But in reality, I don't think it could be much easier. To lose soundly, that is.

I already saw a brilliant game designer tonight actually, literally put his whole game in a mint tin.

Here I thought they were joking. shake

So, um... Hmm...

Travel S.O.A.P. Print and Play files are now available! I can't wait to hear some good constructive feedback.

Just a reminder that next weekend is a holiday weekend here in the U.S. and all of you gamers going on holiday could use a nice PnP pack of Travel S.O.A.P.!

Here is a helpful guide from TGC on card sizes. I believe biz, mini, and micro cards will fit.

Biz = 51 x 89 mm

Mini = 45 x 64 mm

Micro = 32 x 45 mm

Good luck all and have fun! :)

Sorry, this is the first time I've come across this competition, so this is really helpful information. Can anyone tell me approx how many 100gsm cards would fit in such a tin? - I have several game ideas/concepts (past & present) I could easily 'skew' towards this, but a max. Card/Tile Count would be really helpful... What would be an equivalent mint tin size/brand here in the UK?

Thanks in advance,

Alex

I have an idea for an entry, but getting the rules in there will be a challenge. I'll try to simplify and condense.

Let's try this again. I was in such a hurry, I put in the wrong game.

I've decided to create something fresh for this contest, so I'm entering Monster Soup as extremely early Idea Phase.

To be clear, this makes 2 games for me. I just accidentally reposted the first one instead of posting the second one earlier.

Welcome to the contest everyone!

I've updated the entries list. I will try to do this at least once a week. Please let me know if I missed anything.

Please take a look at some of the other games out there. I find that people are more receptive to taking a look at your game if you've helped them.

Still working on the specific game process since I'm modifying it a bit based on the tin restrictions and (hopefully) speeding up the game play.

BUMPING LAST YEAR'S POST FOR THIS QUESTION

Here's one mockup that works comfortably.
52 mini cards (from Elder Sign)
8 small six-sided dice
20 plastic cubes (from Pandemic)
1 folded 8.5x11 sheet of paper

I could squeeze 60 mini cards in but wouldn't be able to fit the 8.5x11 page. I would suggest making your rules on a strip of paper that could be folded accordion-style.

I'm no game designer, and I have tremendous respect for those of you that even try! I picked up a couple sets of these for amusement sake, but they might be useful in expanding further the capabilities you can fit in a mint tin. Micro size polyhedral dice, roughly 10-12mm size so would fit a tin just like the 12mm d6's shown in the earlier post. Available around the web, this photo outsourced from coolstuffinc.com some manufactured by chessex and others by metallicdicegames.com
