Greetings,

I'm working on a game with hex tiles and am getting close to the point I need to print out the tile art instead of hand-drawing it. I'm using a Mac and was wondering if anyone can suggest a tool (preferably free, and for idiots) that is good for making hex shapes. Or is that a fairly standard feature? I need to be able to match up paths on the sides of the hexes.

Thanks!

Eric

I use Pixelmator on Mac for plenty of board game design tasks. It is cheap and easy to use and covers most of the bases you might need.

Hexagons are among the vector shapes that can be drawn. I use that all the time.

Chaz Marler from the Pair of Dice Paradise channel just made a video about it. Seems interesting.

I used this site: https://incompetech.com/graphpaper/hexagonal/

You can customize hex size, color and paper size, then download pdf file.
Easy and free.

A hexgrid that you can draw on/under and you want to be able to manipulate or align things to the sides between then?

Look at my hexmap-generator for inkscape. It is made with game maps in mind, creating vector objects for all the different parts of the hexes (background, each individual side, corners, center, coordinate) in different layers that can be toggled.

Inkscape is really nice for doing the actual drawing even if you generate the grid some other way.

Well, with all due respect to badgers, it takes the combined efforts of three dachshunds to accomplish the feat.
