Variant: Put one token (cube, or glass bead, or coin, etc.) on the top of each Obelisk region. Ignore them during the Day.

At Night, if it is your turn to roll the dice and you have a Hero on that obelisk, check to see if he's already qualified for the spell advancement (assuming he would survive until you rested). That is, if the Magic Level is sufficient. If so, and you continue adventuring that turn, you may move that Hero up to the top part of the obelisk, next to the token.

If you rest with a Hero in such a position, you not only gain the spell book, but you also gain the token. If you become Exhausted before you can rest, you gain neither the spell book nor the token.

A token can be turned in on a future turn to reroll one die. If you have, for example, two tokens, you may reroll two dice, or reroll one die, see the results, then turn in the second token and reroll it again. You must keep the final roll, and you always lose the token whether it helped you or not.

Variant on the variant: put, for example, white tokens on the lowest five spell book numbers and black tokens on the highest five spell book numbers. White tokens are described above. Black tokens may be used in the same way as white tokens, OR may be turned in to deal one extra damage to a goblin when at least one green fist die face is rolled.
