A healthy soul lies within a healthy body. I'm not chasing those souls. I am a Dark Seeker. - The Black Crow, Shadow
Six months. Six months of hard work have gone by, learning from mistakes and sleeping few hours. But at last, we are back! :D For those of you who don't know us, let me introduce ourselves again: we are Arcadia Designs, a design studio born of the union, effort and work of several professionals throughout the Spanish Mediterranean. Our study works in different areas, but the one that competes us here is that we design board games.
The best is the enemy of the good.
We launched our first game in Kickstarter, Animagicians: the Enchanted Manor in March of this year, and thanks to criticism and advice, we stopped the campaign at the 7th day when we had a bit more than half of the funding target because we knew although the game was very good, we could make it more visually striking, more interactive, with a random factor even stronger and with more replayability. We could do it better. And that we come to present.
Animagicians is a fast and fun card game of battles and bluffing where each player represents a Dark Seeker, magicians with the ability of cage the souls of the monsters into crystal shards, gathering more and more power in order to become the most powerful Dark Seeker ever seen. Travel to the Manor on the Forgotten Hill, where rumors says that a powerful Lich hides, cage its Soul, steal its Relics and face your friends in this fantastic game for 1-6 players!
The game has an unique way to play. The players start the game with 5 Magic Cards, and when the turn begins monsters will appear in front of each player, but instead of facing the player that is in front of them, monsters will chase the player they are pointing at!
Players will have to choose secretly which monster or monsters they want to defeat, setting spells on the board face down, to prevent being chased when the magic Spells are cast. No one can see those Spells until the moment of revealing them, so if the monsters have changed between turns, the players will have to remember what they have prepared and if they need to prepare more Spells to defeat the Monsters. Players can also use these spells to attack each other and fool others into thinking they are going to destroy monsters when they just wanted to steal the souls trapped by others...
While you explore the Manor you can find Relics, powerful items that you can hold to gain more power. You can also use Special Cards, changing the state of the game by adding Monsters, removing Monsters, changing Monsters or drawing more Spells. Players will be able to use their abilities to hinder the game of others or to facilitate their own, and will unlock a second ability as they get more souls, bringing them closer to victory.
The game will end when a player defeats a Lich with one of its Special Relics (which have to be stolen from the Lich itself) or when a player gets 10 Souls (which are given by defeating monsters), whatever happens first.
In Animagicians we have three playing modes for all kind of players: - The All vs All mode, where each player wants to get all Souls before each other, facing the monsters, tricking the other players and casting a lot of magic Spells. - The Solo Player Mode, where a trio of brave magicians has entered the manor with 3 Soul Cages to encage the Soul of the Lich. - The Co-op Mode, a challenging adventure for 2 players, where those players have to accomplish several missions inside the manor in order to encage the Soul of the Lich.
You will also find ten unique Character Cards with its own backstory which explains why are they travelling to the manor, each of them with its own special powers (one locked and one unlocked) which makes each game different.
The contents of the Core Box of Animagicians are:
1 Rulebook (both in English and Spanish)
- 10 Characters (2 sides, one side in English and the other in Spanish) - 6 Glossary of Symbols (2 sides, one side in English and the other in Spanish) - 42 Spells - 18 Special Cards - 34 Monsters - 10 Relics - 4 Special Monsters (the Lich!) - 3 Special Relics - 2 Empty Rooms - 11 Missions (for the Solo Player Mode and the Co-op Mode)
1 Cardboard with:
- 3 Soul Cage Token (with Broken Soul Cage Tokens on the other side) - 25 Soul Tokens (2 sides, one side with a Level 1 Soul and the other with a Level 3 Soul) - 1 Starting Player Token
We left the best for the end: The game is not language dependant, although the 26 cards that have text are in Spanish and English, with instructions in both languages (learning to play takes less than 5 minutes), and only two cards of which each player uses have text to read :).
In addition, the game price is 20€ (and there will be a limited numbered Collector version). And as a colophon, for all backers of Kickstarter we are going to give away a figure of the Lich in detail to replace the Starting Player Token, and several exclusive cards. As a gift. No added cost ;D.
The Kickstarter campaign starts this month, we still have to confirm the date, but it will be from 16 onwards (we depend on the video reviews of Unfiltered Gamer, Australian Tabletop Gaming Network and Sulker). We will try to attend all possible events (for a start, we are in the Xpobit of Almeria in two weeks, and at the same time you can visit the stand of Windmaster Miniatures in the Freakwars of Madrid where you can see the Lich in person). And there is going to be a tour on Barcelona during the campaign from Wadub teaching to play for the shops :), and for Valencia and part of Andalusia of our own hand. More info coming soon.
What do you think? We are very excited, and we hope that you liked it as much as we did. There are going to be Social Goals, so if you follow us in the social media we will be closer and closer to the goals;).
We will keep this thread updated, to answer any questions you may have!
