I've played twice so far, once at 3 and once at 5.

I definitely preferred the 3p game, for two reasons.

First, the game goes much quicker because auctions are over quicker.

Second, the dynamics are more interesting because there is less money in the game. Since everyone always starts at $30, in a 5p game there is $150 in the system to start, but at 3 there is only $90. As a result, in a 3p game it is less likely that everything will get built.

In our games, the mine values at 3p were spread out from 7 to 9. In the 5p game three companies were at 9 and one was at 8. In a stock game this sort of equal valuation is much less interesting.

I wouldn't play at 5 again, but I would definitely play at 3 and would be willing to try at 4.
