I would be all over Ashes: Rise of the Phoenixborn but the art just gives me a headache (just my opinion - I know most people love it).

So are there any other similar card games that also use dice?

Thanks!

Star Wars: Destiny is the first to come to mind.

Alternatively, Dice Masters is a dice game...with cards. Nearly a complete reverse of the first (as in the former is a card game with dice as the resource, and the latter is a dice game with cards that dictate the resource)

Summoner Wars is very similar to Ashes. I thought of Biblios too, but the dice are essentially ornamental--you don't roll them, they are used to track point values. (Not that I don't recommend it!)

Roma and Arena: Roma II are really fun. They're more like a euro board game and less like an expandable/collectible card game but they still give a good head to head feel and the dice mechanism is clever.

The Cousins' War is a clever fun mini-wargame using cards and dice (and a tiny 3-region map).

Seconded.

Don't feel bad about not liking Ashes' art. It has turned me off from the game long ago.

Pathfinder Adventure Card Game: Rise of the Runelords – Base Set - awesome co-op card/dice adventure game

Magnate - neat little game for the Decktet that uses dice

Lobotomy - dice-chucking dungeon crawl with lots of interesting card decisions

Mage Wars Academy is definitely what you are looking for, stay away from Pathfinder unless you are willing to invest in expansions, the base game doesn't have much replayability.

+1 Mage Wars Academy It's solid. The only downfall is that there are not enough people that play it. It's not that hard to learn, there's just a ton of terminology and lots of explaining on what to do when.
