We love and value our Great White Sharks in Australia, we put them in public swimming pools to protect them.

Yeah.

I chucked my kid in that pool.

OK. There was no shark in it then. But I didn't know that.

(Actually that day i just remembered i did see a shark cruising past that very spot).

I didn't read the article, but wouldn't the chlorine in the pool (instead of salt) kill the shark?

Or do Australians use salt water for their public pools?

It looks like this particular pool is just seawater, more an enclosed shallow bay than a pool. If you put the shark in a conventional pool, then yeah, not just the chlorine but the lack of salt would kill it fairly quickly.
