Hi!

Recently, I've played Smash Up only with one friend, so we explored the possibilities of 1v1 (we used to play 1v1v1). We came with this variant that we found interesting, in case you want to try:

- We generate a subgroup of 20 factions through some means (for example, right half of the box, or last X expansions, or whatever you want to do).

- We draft those 20 factions: P1 Bans, P2 Bans, P1 Picks, P2 Picks, P2 Picks, P1 Picks, P1 Picks... etc, until each of us has 6 factions.

- We play best of three with those 6 factions, you have to build 3 different 40 cards decks, but your opponent doesn't know how you combine them or which combination you are using each of the three games. You don't need to do the second deck until you have played the first match, so you are able to choose accordingly.

This way you are forced not only to find a god-tier combination, but you need to balance them to try to win two out of the three games.

We haven't done this, but maybe "The winning player of the first game has to announce which factions they are using for the second game before the losing player." could be a rule.
