A day late and a dollar short, I had thought the prior twitter post from FFG would announce at least the new MWL last Friday, but my enthusiasm got the better of me.

Behold, the announcement landed on FFG's home page a little while ago.

https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2017/9/11/boot-up...

The contents seem to subscribe to the bulk of reasonable speculation that has evolved in the rumor mill regarding the revised core set (pun intended).

Per the FFG page:

The Revised Core Set establishes the new baseline for Android: Netrunner, but it does not introduce any new cards to the game.

"Players who already own the Core Set, along with the Data Packs from the Genesis Cycle and Spin Cycle will already own all the cards from the Revised Core Set. The card art and card quantities in the Revised Core Set, however, vary in places from those in the classic Core Set and Data Packs."

Some variant card art as seen below:

The core Corp identities have also undergone a revision, losing EtF and gaining Stronger Together, while we say a fond farewell to our first digital tinkerer, Kate "Mac" McCaffrey and welcome back Chaos Theory (who would have rotated out on October 1st).

The size of the Revised Core Set box (ADN49) appears to be the same as that of Conquest, AGOT 2nd Edition and the more recent LCG releases. What I did not see explicitly stated (and it's very possible I missed it) is if the rule set will be parsed into Learn-to-Play and Rules Reference booklets. Will be interesting to see how the original rules transcribed over in the newer format (overall I was very pleased with the results from Twilight Imperium 4th edition).

If my quick count is correct, then Core 2.0 removes 21 runner cords and 19 corp cards, while adding 28 runner cards and 31 corp cards. If the number of cards stays the same, then it would seem many more cards will be printed with only 1 or 2 card count... making it likely a bit more of a pain to get a play set of the new art for anyone interested.

Headlines:

#1 : Engineering the Future, Kate, and Noise are all gone. This will hopefully open up a lot of space for new ideas, especially in HB and Shaper.

#2 : All of the 3/2 agendas are back (Vitruvius, Braintrust, Beale, and Atlas), although ABT is gone. So while most agendas will be 3/1, 4/2, 5/3... we'll have a 3/2 for everyone.

#3 : Fast advance got hit hard with the removal of Astroscript, SanSan, and Breaking News... although Trick of Light stuck around.

#4 : Anarch is remade. No more Noise, Parasite, Medium, Corroder, Grimoire, Yog, or Wyldside. It's a whole new faction, but Imp, Liberated Account, and Scrubber should help.

#5 : Desperado is dead. Account Siphon too. Criminal got to keep Emergency Shutdown and Faerie, but the two best Criminal cards are no more.

#6 : Scorched Earth is no more, but don't worry, you still have Boom, Punitive Counterstrike, and Traffic Accident... plus there's the new Urban Renewal coming in the next data pack.

#7 : Money cards stick around... including Celebrity Gift, Liberated Account, GRNDL Refinery, Green Level Clearance... but not Sweeps Week.

Perhaps I'm mistaken but doesn't the list above indicate that Astroscript was removed entirely?

At first glance I think this is looking good. The smaller boxes have lower shipping costs anyway

Could be pretty painful for new players, yes. I'd need to do some investigation to see what holes are left after two old cores + one new core for me, but it looks like it can (mostly?) be solved with old data packs.

The ultimate errata!

"Astroscript is no longer a problem."

This.........looks good. Maybe I can get some of my friends to jump in. Such a different game with just a few deletions. Most excited to see the non-interactive playstyles take a significant hit. No more Noise mill, or ridiculous no install fast advance. This will probably convince me to pick up the remaining data packs from where I had stopped buying, so I can have the Android Netrunner 1.0 full set, and if I can get some friends playing, be back in business.

Right? Both my runner decks just lost their runner.

Not likely, but it would be a nice thing. I have thought a little about what a solo variant would be like, and I think it would require some specialised cards for solo play only to emulate a bluffing corp opponent. I'm not sure solo play as a corp would even make sense.

I have to say I like the revised Core set list. It neatly disposes of a lot of the cards that were problematic by moving them out of Core so that Rotation could claim them. Goodbye Account Siphon(Yay!); a tear shed for Chum (I know it wasn't the most optimal card but it was fun to use).

Also of note that the new sets look more balanced in terms of having SOME kind of counter for everything in them present. For example, Darwin (an AI) has been added to Anarch but Swordsman is also Core now - an AI killer.

And so abruptly - just like that we're only weeks away from some of the old core cards rotating out without warning! I love it, but I hate having to rearrange my cards again

You'd almost think they learned from experience!

They didn't go with the AGoT 2e-style card counts, but it's still a better set for new players, and the best first expansion to get after.

So I have a question: I thought that I saw on the post that the Spin & Genesis cycles will have all the cards included in the Revised Core Set? So I shouldn't bother purchasing those cards then?

I ask because I'm contemplating picking up Netrunner again, and I'm wondering if I need to purchase the revised core set, and everything else OR just the revised core set and everything else, less the data packs from Genesis and Spin cycles.

Any help would be appreciated please, thank you!

I just posted about this in another thread, but here's what I'm doing:
First I'll count cards and set aside the ones from core 1.0 which don't appear in 2.0. Into the legacy bin with those.

Then I'm filling out the set so I have at least 3x of all core 2.0 cards by buying any missing data packs from the first two cycles. Buying the new core shouldn't be necessary, BUT it's got new art, so I may get it anyway eventually. If I find out it's more efficient to just get the new core I'll do that instead.

Getting rid of the core cards which rotate out in less than 3 weeks is the most important thing though. If you have everything through those two cycles and more than one core you're probably mostly ready anyway.

So the revised core set has a few cards from those cycles and gets rid of few cards that use to be in the core set. Once the new core set comes out anything from those two cycles plus the original core set that isn't in it will no longer be legal.

They should have posted this last Wednesday. It would have been five years to the day since the game was released.
