Addendum: New cards with their revised core counts, sorted by original data pack. You generally won't need the 3x cards if you get the new core, unless you like to build a lot of simultaneous decks.

This should also be helpful if you're just wondering what to get in addition to an original core or two and don't have all of the first two cycles.

Genesis Cycle
1 - What Lies Ahead:
1x Ash 2X3ZB9CY
3x Braintrust
2x Caduceus
1x Haas-Bioroid: Stronger Together
1x Imp
3x Morning Star
3x Peacock
3x Project Atlas
2x Spinal Modem

2 - Trace Amount:
3x Dyson Mem Chip
3x Liberated Account
1x Notoriety
2x Trick of Light

3 - Cyber Exodus:
1x Chaos Theory: Wünderkind
2x Dinosaurus
2x Emergency Shutdown
2x Test Run
3x Pop-up Window
3x Project Vitruvius

4 - A Study in Static:
1x All-nighter
1x False Lead
2x Doppelgänger
3x Force of Nature
3x Green Level Clearance
2x Scrubber
2x Underworld Contact

5 - Humanity's Shadow:
1x Bernice Mai
1x Hokusai Grid
1x HQ Interface
1x Pheromones
1x Whirlpool
1x Xanadu

6 - Future Proof:
2x Darwin
1x Dedicated Response Team
3x Faerie
1x Flare
2x Indexing
1x Mr. Li
3x Project Beale
2x Retrieval Run
1x Ronin

Spin Cycle
1 - Opening Moves:
3x Celebrity Gift
3x Himitsu-Bako
2x Project Ares

2 - Second Thoughts:
1x Elizabeth Mills
2x Swordsman
1x The Cleaners

3 - Mala Tempora:
1x Hudson 1.0
1x Reina Roja: Freedom Fighter

4 - True Colors:
2x Punitive Counterstrike
3x TGTBT

5 - Fear and Loathing:
3x GRNDL Refinery

Yep, there is at least some new art to look forward to. The mechanical aspect of the cards are the same though. xisting versions will be compatible, which is why I'm not listing Gabe as rotating out.

I think the point they were making is that you have the NBN, Weyland and Jinteki IDs listed as rotating, but they are staying the same.

Yeah, it's a cut and paste issue - the old card list PDF lists them differently. I'll make some edits when I feel more awake

Edit: Edits made. Things might be correct-ish now.

Thank you for making these lists.

Your second post is really helpful for people who want extras and also helps show just how clearly the Genesis cycle is pretty important for balancing out the old core game.

I'm pretty excited for these changes and think it was the right thing to do for the health of the game.

To complete a revised core so that you have a minimum 3 of each card, you'd have to buy 9 data packs. At Miniature Market's prices, that's $107.91 (probably eligible for free shipping?) in the US. Two cores will be much cheaper, most likely $65-$70.

Book Depository only have 8 of the 9 packs (over £74 for the 8 they have), so UK buyers are also better off just getting another couple of revised cores from Games Lore, Chaos Cards or wherever. Some Europeans may also save on just buying cores if they don't pay Norwegian prices.

All the cards in the revised core are available right now, but even with the heavy discounts seen on the current core it might be better for totally new players to just wait.

EDIT: Clarified last sentence.

Thanks a lot for your work. It is certainly helpful.
I need to finish the analysis and see what is the best way for me to get up to speed, considering I only have an old core set.

So far, this is the benefit of buying the new core, bring the old cards up to x3, and bearing in mind I don't count here the ability of maintaining multiple decks as useful (but you might disagree)

1x Aggressive Secretary
1x Anonymous Tip
1x Archer
1x Archived Memories
1x Hadrian’s Wall
1x Heimdall 1.0
1x Red Herrings
1x Sacrificial Construct
1x Shipment from MirrorMorph
1x Sneakdoor Beta
1x The Personal Touch
In the x1 section - 11 cards "useful" - 7 cards "wasted"

No x2 card is useful - there were already 3 of these - 38 cards "wasted"

3x Aurora
3x Battering Ram
3x Mimic
3x Modded
3x Pipeline
3x Psychographics
3x Viktor 1.0

In the x3 section - 7 cards useful - 14 cards "wasted"

So far, we're buying a "new core set" only for 18 cards, discarding 59.

Now, obviously, we're also getting 105 new cards. But I'm not sure that for the owner of an old core set - like me - the equation of buying 3 new core set vs buying the data packs balances out.

Diminishing returns hit hard on the second new core set, for instance, as I'd only have 40 useful cards

And the third one is absolutely mad with only 23 useful cards.

Decisions, decisions...

Edit: I have to say that I'm miffed, to say the least, about their decision to include so many singles this time around.

While it is annoying that a core set isn't "complete," another way to look at it is that you are getting a larger variety of cards available to you when you buy a core set.

I actually like the fact that there are more singles this time around, rather than in the first core which had (I think) 7. Which means that if you wanted a third copy of some pretty critical cards, like Desperado, SanSan City Grid, or Aesop's Pawnshop, then you were essentially spending $40 for 7 cards. And that is a pretty terrible value proposition.

At least with the new core when you buy multiples, you actually get some value.

Having 1 copy of the old core does kind of throw a wrench into this calculation when deciding what you need for a new core. Players who just recently bought an old core are in the worst situation.

The bottom line for me, if I wanted to align (and at the moment, I haven't done qualitative analysis, only quantitative) is 2 alternatives:
- buy 3 new core sets and just consider the old core set as a sunk cost - potentially, gift it to a mate or sell for 2 chips and an olive on fleabay
- buy an old core set (or the 18 singles I'd need out of it) and buy the 12 data packs

I just need to do a cost comparison between the 2.

Yep, it looks like having just one old core is one of the worst positions, but I think somebody said on the FFG forums that getting one old and one new core ensures you at least have the overlap cards in triplicate.

But you'd still really need to get the first two cycles. Unless somebody's selling off just those cycles for about $50, there's nothing better than looking for a discount on the new core.

I'd say three new cores when they're out is still the best way to get a complete set. Personally I do find utility in being able to build many decks in case some cards are useful in more than one faction. It's possible the rotation and removal helps to make different faction decks more diverse, but I still expect some auto-include neutral agendas.

(Of course, right now I have no decks as everything in my small collection is in shambles thanks to this big shake-up )

It's possible you can manage with just two of the new core alongside your old one with the aforementioned overlap, but I'd wait till some sort of big tournament plays and lists for winning decks appear.

tl;dr: Be patient and see what you actually need.

My plan for the near term is just to proxy a bunch of cards from the new core. I don't own any of Genesis or Spin, so I am going to have some random cards with a post-it in the sleeve that says "Project Atlas".

At least in my area, nobody cares if you do this, as long as it isn't a major tournament.

I am a VERY casual player. My wife and I own the previous core box, enjoy playing, but have never bought any more cards.

Would we be better served moving forward buying the new core and mixing them up for more of the 1x and 2x cards or jumping right into expansions where all the cards would be new?

So far we have only played against each other or friends who just grab one of the super noob decks we have made.

I'm awful at remembering cards. All I see is a sea of yellow when people do that

(Or white. Some players are students and can't even afford small sticky notes!)

If you just play with a very limited group, an additional revised core will be a nice expansion. You'll get more of some cards you have 1 or 2 of, and a lot of new cards. Some existing cards might have new art.

It should double the life-expectancy of the game for people who don't care about any sort of tournament

I think buying multiple revised core sets is a good idea. For one, it's handy to have extra copies of the commonly used cards (e.g. hedge fund, sure gamble, etc.) so that you can have several finished decks at a time.

Of course, you may be able to pick up used copies of the original core set at a very reasonable price, and even though some cards are no longer tournament viable, it could be worthwhile in light of the comparative discount.

And for casual play, several of the cards that have rotated out are nonetheless fun (both in the old core and the Genesis+Spin cycle), so that's not the end of the world either.

I think there are no badges.

I'm hoping to see the same happen with the championship decks. There are some cards in those which would be good to have extra copies of. bBut they banned so many of the cards in the 2016 decks, making them worth less than full price now.

It would be a shame to never be able to use all these cards again:

That's not even a complete collection - the packs I'm missing add lots more.

It would probably be terrible--or at best really weird--but I'd be really happy if someone came up with a draft cube made of defunct cards.

I found a cube of core plus genesis and spin is a lot of fun. I don't know it would work without the core cards (either old or new).

It's possible; my main concern would be the icebreakers.

Here's a clever approach, though. It's made out of rotated cards, championship deck cards, and the extras from a second core.
