Our game just went live on Kickstarter, check it out. Here is a short introduction, for any further information, feel free to visit the campaign page (there is also a .pdf download of the rulebook) or our website.

Valhal is a strategic board game for 2-4 players, set at the dawn of the Viking era.
You take part as 'Jarls' of a settlement on the barren island of Fjörnheim.

Your goal is to gain the favour of the Gods by extending your settlements and trying to find other people’s fortune overseas. And then take it.

Every game starts with the summer raids, the so called "Vikingfahrt". All players pick a town they want to attack with their troops. Afterwards they fight, following the intuitive battle system of fixed attack and defense stats combined with dice rolling. In case of success, the players get to loot the cities for treasures by drawing one of 35 unique loot cards, this is the main income the players have throughout the year.

Back home in their viking settlement, the players make use of their new gained fortune, recruiting more troops, bringing sacrifices to the gods and starting to build more ships buildings to extend their ettlement.

From now on every season will start with the draw of an event card, there are 60 different ones, and each one of them may bring you joy or pain, or something in between. Every card has it's own story, many of them inspired by actual mythic stories of the time.

Another important part of the game are the ways of the northern gods. Their will is represented by 60 cards. By bringing sacrifices and certain events, the gods will grant you their Benevolence. Other events or hostile fellow players may force you to draw Wrath of the Gods cards. As in the event cards, every single card of the gods tells a story, many of them following the recorded stories about the gods.

Goal of the game is to rise in the favour of the Gods, as only one of the players will be allowed to enter Valhal! Gaining the favour of the Gods can be achieved through various ways in the game.

We noticed the concerns about the shipping to the United States and we are looking into cheaper options. However we can't promise anything by now. The biggest issue is the weight of the package. We have a lot of thick cardboard pieces that add up.

We will also dig into the PnP option to give you the chance to enjoy our game without the shipping.

Sadly there is no video available yet, we have planned to make several videos talking about certain parts of the game and some of our games mechanics.

In the meantime, if you want to know more, you can download a pre-release version of our rulebook here: https://www.tetrahedron-games.com/app/download/7960174/Ruleb...

Updates:

24 hours

Well, those were some exciting 24 hours!

First of all, a big thank you to all of our backers to this point. It is one thing to work on a game for such a long time and having fun playing it with friends and family, but to see how so many people are just as excited about our project, who did not even have the chance to play it yet, is just amazing.

However, we have also received some feedback about concerns you guys have, so we also want to address those.

Shipping into the US is quite pricey, even though a lot of our Backers come from the US. We are currently in contact with a couple of shipping companies to see if there is anything we can do. But so far it usually comes down to the amount of packages we ship at one time, and currently it is just not enough to make a real difference. Just like you, we are hoping that this changes throughout the campaign, but we really do not want to make any promises we cannot keep.

There is no gameplay video! The thing is, we do not really have a very pretty printed version of our game, really just our DIY kind of Prototype we have been using for testplaying. So we did not really want to ruin the impression of all our beautiful artworks by showing of that thin right away. However a lot of you guys would like to see some gameplay, as it is rather hard to imagine a real round of Valhal just from the Rulebook. So we decided to produce such a video. It will not be pretty, but it will be informative, so stay tuned!

More languages! A lot of you guys ask for more languages (especially spanish), and we would love to fulfill you this wish, but translators usually are an expensive bunch of people, which is why we had to set a stretch goal for translations. However, sometimes you find the right people, like the guys of Dice Cultural in Portugal, who offered to translate our rulebook into portuguese.

German Version. The biggest amount of Backers comes from our home country Germany, and there were quite some requests for a full german Version because of that. Of course we are in constant conference with our producer to see what we can do on this front, but just once more, it comes down to the amount of games we will produce, so be assured we are trying to work something out, but we can't promise anything at this point.

Print and Play. Well, another request following our shipping fee was the one for a Print and Play Version. We thought about this before starting the campaign, and really could not immagine how anyone could enjoy a print and play version of our game. Over 160 cards and endless tokens, also the game requires D3 to be played properly, a lot of people also don't have those (and using D6 as replacements is really annoying, trust us, we did that for way to many times in our early test games). So really, we still don't see much of a point in having our game as P&P, but let us know your opinion! If there are really a lot of people interested in such a thing, we'll look into that.

Looking forward to another 28 days, and once again thank you for all of your support!

Spanish Download Edition

Thanks to Alfonso Moles Sánchez we are now also able to make the .pdf version of our rulebook available in SPANISH after the campaign ends.
