I believe it was the barbarian class that has a signature move that costs 1xp and auto-kills a minion. Is there any reason not to do this every single turn, since you get an xp for killing a minion so it's effectively free?

You must have the initial XP to spend. Otherwise it is "free".

If you have no other pressing concerns, and you will be able to deal with the group, without much difficulty from counter-attacks, before the enemy activation phase, then you are losing XP, by needlessly spending it.

It doesn't cost an action, so other concerns don't really matter as you aren't sacrificing anything as long as you plan on attacking that mob anyway. You're not losing xp because you get that xp right back when the minion dies according to my reading of the rules.

Tuckerot brings up a valid point I haven't really seen anyone else bring up. Everyone just says the skill is "free" since you essentially spend 1 xp to get 1 back. However, you aren't gaining an extra experience point for killing a minion with Crush like you normally would with a normal attack. You are just getting one back and replacing the one spent.

Take this example:

* Your first action you use Charge to rush into a group of enemies and kill 2.
* Your next turn you attack and kill 3 more.
* Your third action you attack and kill the boss.

In this example you would kill all the minions and boss and gain 8 experience. Now, here is how that might turn out if you use Crush:

* Your first action you use Charge to rush into a group of enemies and kill 2.
* Your next turn you use Crush to kill one enemy and attack and kill 2 more.
* Your third action you attack and kill the boss.

In this example you are only gaining 7 experience since you used Crush, despite getting the experience point back. There will be some occasions where using Crush is not beneficial.

Regardless there is an abundance of experience in the game so it's not a huge deal.

True, if you think you can easily wipe out all the minions without using the skill it doesn't make sense to use it.

Yet another reason IMO to not award xp for killing Minions or award micro xp instead when playing in standard mode. I honestly don't believe the skill should be 'free'.

In Story Mode, you spend Micro-XP to use your Signature, so it would still be 'free'. But as pointed out Adam, especially in Story Mode you don't want to waste Micro-XP, so using it is not really 'free'.

But it isn't free... it costs one xp... even if you get it back, it still costs you one xp

Unless you're playing story mode and MicroXP is precious.

The first rule of Story Mode, is you don't play Story Mode.
