I really love medieval fantasy, and this game is doing some interesting different stuff (like angels, we don't see that often), but i'm hoping for a lot of historical figures because the epoch is really interesting and it's fresh and not commomplace.

We've got almost all of that, and some more stuff besides!

But you'll have to do your own bank jobs

Everyone forgets the unicorns, including Noah. Why do you think we don't see them any more?

I'm hoping for a game that allows me to play out authentic to the time period historical battles with simple yet engaging and fun rules that takes between 45 to 90 minutes to play. That's first and foremost what I'm hoping for.

I'm excited for the supernatural aspect as well but kind of hope the scenarios can be played either way. For example I'd like to see the werewolf seceniaro also be playable as a knight looking to deal out justice to a criminal hiding in the village. We'll have to see how flexible the rules and scenarios are. I'll like either type but my wife loves historical stuff but she's not into fantasy and I'm hoping she might get into this game.

Can't wait to see what kind of castle siege is planned. I hope there's a full castle with a drawbridge but mainly I hope I can afford all this awesomeness.

Most of the scenarios are based on historical events. Intriguingly, this includes the werewolf scenario. This is a well-documented event that happened in 1333, in a village that to this day is called (I think) La Croix du Loup Pendu - the Cross of the Hanged Wolf.

Now, looking back with our very different cultural mindsets, we may think that there was no werewolf, but that's definitely what the historical event was about

Exactly where you draw the line between historical and fantastical depends on where you place your assumptions, and we've favoured the assumptions of the contemporaries of the events. What did they think happened? What was real for them?

So the battle of Brossiniere, for example, has some civilians around the edges, including a bonesetter, and they can help in one way or another - as they did in reality. They are adjuncts to the main focus though, which is the battle itself.

My big question at the moment is how much comes in the main Pledge box vs "priced" add-ons.

I believe Support will be strong and that there will be a number of "stretch goals" attained, but I'm hoping to be able to game a mix of historical battle situations, small-group endeavors and some "creatures of the darkness" adventures without the necessity of hundreds of units-of-one's-local-currency above the pledge level.

I suppose the Campaign, when unveiled, will answer much of this. I'm hopeful, but somewhat cautious.

Kickstarter is not for the cautious! Tis for the adventurous!

*I do not use "tis" in my regular dialogue, it just seemed fitting in this particular circumstance.

Barry - the idea of the core box is to give you a complete game in one package, at a price we could never afford to do in retail. You don't need to get any add-ons, and will have a full game with many hours of replayability if you choose to stop there.

The add-ons are mostly about adding new play styles (Castle/Siege), or specific units and scenarios to go with them (dragon, X, Y, and Z). Unfortunately I can't tell you what X, Y and Z are just yet

When you add new units from any expansion, they will always be usable in the battle mode, so you expand that too.

You may obviously choose to get some, all, or none of the expansions. Whatever you decide, you will have a huge stack of toys to play with. If you decide to add more later, JoA will be available in retail, although not in the same format (retail and KS need different approaches to work optimally), and the price will be significantly higher.

As you say, the KS campaign will reveal all of the details.

Hey Jake,

Any chance we might be able to get a variant miniature of Joan of Arc as a stretch goal. While the current one I've seen is nice, I'd love to see one that looks like the picture that I assume is going to be on the front of the box. The one where she's pointing the sword in the direction they are charging. For me that would be a much better pose for her miniature than the current one.

There is at least one more Joan mini, though it's not the one on the box front. That's a good idea though as it's a striking pose.

Remember though, that Joan wasn't a fighter. She was an inspiration and a leader - not a combat monster - and that's why her banner is important.

I'll have a chat with Leo and see whether there are more Joans planned.

I (speaking just for myself) prefere new minis before alternate poses. Though I have to say that the actual Joan mini is the only one among all minis that I do not like very much...

This is pretty much how I feel as well. I'd much rather have minis of things that serve another purpose than alternate poses. That said I feel the Joan mini doesn't look that commanding as I'd personally like. The image of her pointing the sword looks like she's ordering troops to attack and seems much more striking.

Personally, I like alternative sculpts some of the time, and not others. To explain; I like units to look varied rather than like they are modern troops on parade. Particularly here, in the middle ages, I don't believe for a moment that armies would have looked anything like as uniform as we expect soldiers to look now. So, I'd like enough variants of, say, men at arms, to have a mix of poses on each base. When it comes to heroes, I don't think there's much need for repeating the same character in the same situation - I'd rather have a new character.

I've spoken to Leo, and we aren't currently planning to do a second Joan in the cover pose. Having said that, the craziness of a Kickstarter does leave the opportunity for this sort of request, which simply isn't possible in retail-only games. And, Joan being Joan, she is something of a special case.

So you never know.

Would mounted and dismounted variants of the same heroes make sense with this rule set?

It depends on the scenario. You could certainly have them for different situations.

Just thinking about this game and thought how I'd love to see a seceniaro with wagons carrying supplies or gold being escorted by guards and having to try and rob or steal the supplies or gold. Kind of like a Robin Hood scene.

You could have the bandits choose the location of where the wagon would be forced to stop (by dropping a tree across the road) on the board. With different locations offering different benefits. The player controlling the convoy would have to choose to fight from the road, go into the woods and attack the bandit or try to turn the wagon around and escape maybe. The bandits could try to fell another tree behind the wagon so it can't. I think it would be fun.
