You've helped me before. If you figure it out, I'm interested!

Thanks Sis

this game is really similar to Treasure Hunter from the creator of King of Tokyo.

I took a trip to Japan several months ago to visit my old roommate from when I taught English there. I wasn't into tabletop gaming back then, but now I am, so it was fun to discover local shops near where I lived and worked, and spend too much on games!

So I went to Game Store Banesto in Nagoya, which I saw recommended on BGG and definitely picked up Deca Slayer based on the art, and that most of the cards lacked text, so I hoped for the best.

Where did you get it?

Just got this game! I think I’ve got most of the rules down. Anyone have a chance to actually play it yet?

Not that I have seen. If someone does write up the rules, I would gladly lay down a hefty GG reward.

Just a side note to say there was a translation request open for the game.
I must confess I had totally forgotten about it.

I did reply to someone asking question on the thread: https://boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/225625/item/5416365#item5...
Feel free to have a look.

I'll try to upload photos on how to play (showing the first 3 rounds maybe?).

I'll describe the first 3 rounds of a game with 4 players.

Set up
- Each player gets a guild master and 4 random characters. The remaining character cards form a deck of recruits for the next battles. Lay down character cards as required. For a 4 player game it is 6.
- Put randomly 9 monster cards into a deck, and add the Dragon as the 10th monster at the bottom. Draw the first 3 and place them in a column.
- Shuffle the treasure cards and form a deck. Draw 2 loots for each monster and place them next to monster: reveal both for the bottom-most monster, and only 1 of the 2 for the others.
- Decide on a start player: in this tutorial this will be P1.

The game can start.

At any point of time, all players will always see the upcoming 2 next battles on top on the current one. They can only see 1 of the 2 treasures cards for the upcoming battles.
You actually don't need to kill the monster: they get defeated automatically. Getting 1st in score in a battle allow you to choose the loot first.

Battle1: Wraith

Let's first have a look at the current monster (Wraith) and its treasures:

Players need to keep taking turn and play Magic characters. The first player to pass will be 4th, the second 3rd, etc.

Okay, so after having looked at the full board (upcoming battle) and deciding their strategy the players start the battle.

- P1 plays a Priest with Magic strength of 6
- P2 passes
- P3 plays a Wizard with Magic strength of 9
- P4 plays a Wizard with Magic strength of 9
- P1 plays a Warlock with Magic strength of 7
- P2 plays a Wizard with Magic strength of 9
- P4 passes
- P1 plays a Warlock with Magic strength of 7
- P3 passes

So in this battle, where the last person remaining wins:
1st - P1
2nd - P3
3rd - P4
4th - P2

All played cards are discarded. The monster is discarded too.
Now players proceed to scoring, and looting/recruiting.

- P1 (1st) starts and chooses the loot worth 8 points.
- P3 (2nd) gets the other treasure worth 10 points (to be kept face down).
- P4 (3rd) chooses 2 characters to recruit.
- P2 (4th) chooses 2 characters to recruit.
- P3 (2nd) then chooses 1 character.
- P1 (1st) gets the last character.

We then shift down the 2 other monsters, and add a 3rd one at the top of the queue, with its 2 treasure cards (only 1 revealed). We then reveal the hidden treasure card of the new monster.

The grid now looks like:

The next battle can start.

Battle 2: Wyvern

So this battle has only 1 step: play a set of Ranged and Magic card, in order. The one with the lower strength for the pair wins.

P1 scored 1st in the previous battle so becomes the starting player for this battle.

- P1 passes
= P2 plays a Minstrel with Ranged strength 4 and a Minstrel with Magic strength 4
= P3 plays a Bard with Ranged strength 4 and a Troubadour with Magic strength 4
- P4 passes

Let's proceed to scoring:
- P1: 0
= P2: 4+4 = 8 (notice how when a character has several matchign strength you need to choose one one type)
- P3: 4+4 = 8
- P4: 0

So in the battle where the lowest value wins
1st - P2 (same score as P3 but in clockwise order closest to starting player P1)
2nd - P3
3rd - P1 (same score as P4 but starting player win the ties)
4th - P4

And loot/recruiting:

- P2 (1st) chooses the treasure worth 6 vp (for now)
- P3 (2nd) takes the other treasures: from now on, the Magic strength of his characters is increased by 1 (if they have Magic Strength)
- P1 (3rd) chooses 2 characters
- P4 (4th) chooses 2 characters
- P3 (2nd) chooses 1 character
- P2 (1st) chooses 1 character

We then prepare for the next battle by adding a new monster and its treasure cards.

The board now looks like:

Battle 3: Slime

The Slime will be defeated after 1 turn, and player can only play a single Magic card. What more, all player must reveal their card at once. The player who deals the most damage wins.

P1, P2, P3 and P4 prepare their card to play

and then reveal:

- P1 plays a Sorcerer and deals 8 damage
- P2 plays a Sorcerer and deals 8 damage
- P3 plays a Guild master and deals 8+1 damage (thanks to its treasure card)
- P4 plays a Archmage and deals 10 damage.
Note that if a player hadn't played a magic card he would score 0.

So the scores are:
1st - P4
2nd - P3
3rd - P2 (same score as P1 but was starting player this round)
4th - P1

- P4 (1st) takes the treasure worth 5 vp that gives him +1 strength in Ranged
- P3 (2nd) takes the other treasure wortth 6 vp
- P2 (3rd) chooses 2 characters
- P1 (4th) chooses 2 characters
- P3 (2nd) chooses 1 character
- P4 (1st) chooses 1 character

and so on.... until all 10 monsters are defeated (Dragon is the last boss, and players will use all their hand at him).

Hopefully that helped.

Edit: sorry for the various mistypes on the pictures, etc, but still I hope that gives you an idea of the flow of the game.

I wouldn't mind but could someone approach the designer and ask for permission? I can work on the translation in the mean time.

Just in case (and because it's much easier tbh) I will only translate the text from the rule book so I don't use the art etc.

Hopefully that will be enough.

Btw just saw Tom Vasel's got the game in one of his packages:
https://youtu.be/X67hK-T-I5g?t=165

So maybe you can expect a review? and explanation on how to play?

I wonder if they sent English rules!

Haha, unless he has a Japanese buddy, there's no way he's going to figure this out, he's got way too many other games to be playing...

But yeah, that'd be good if they sent English rules to him..

I've just heard from Arclight that they plan to Kickstart an English-language version of the game in 2018, and to spread awareness of the game, they plan to upload English rules on BGG "soon". Interpret that time period as you will.

Thanks again cartkun for the detailed breakdown. I was able to machine translate and cleanup the manual (I disregarded superfluous stuff like the story bit in the first page & play hints). I will clean it up as much as possible and submit it as a file for reference but you can check it out here:https://docs.google.com/document/d/1P0RO3lddAu4gu21CHN_YioG9...

All that's needed for play then is a good reference sheet for the treasure & guild powers.

I just saw a Rules Girl video on it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59NCbyXelxk

I think that should help you with playing!
Enjoy.

And sorry guys, I failed to deliver the translation, I totally blame it on... playing board games!
