What has been your favorite games of the year so far? Gen Con is past us and Christmas is coming up, so it seems like a good time to evaluate the year?
Personal Favorites:
GOTY (so far): The Godfather: Corleone's Empire
Party GOTY (so far): Werewords
Co-op GOTY (so far): Codenames Duet
Family GOTY (so far): Century: Spice Road

EDIT:
Maybe a most anticipated for the upcoming Holiday season as well?

Of games published this year I have only played Century: Spice Road, which is an ok game.

As for everything else that's come out this year - nothing has really grabbed my interest - although I am trying to purchase less so maybe I'm looking less?

Gloomhaven. Added a new entry into what is considered epic and did it on such a high level there's little else to compare it to. The 7th Continent will have a nice run, but its score is already on a lesser pace. Only PLS2 really has a shot at outclassing it in terms of ratings and that won't happen this year if at all. Plus, PLS2 is hardly a fresh idea.

I've played 17 games released in 2017 and the only ones I have rated higher than 8.0 are Whistle Stop and Lisboa. Lisboa is a top-5 game of all time for me and my first impressions of Whistle Stop were very favorable, but for me 2017 is NOT shaping up to be a memorable year whatsoever.

This has been my impression as well. I haven't really looked at Essen releases, but GenCon was lacking. The rest of the year has been so-so. Honeslty, reprints have been the thing of interest for me.

I couldn't think of one off-hand, so I checked my played list for this year. Turns out I've played 0 games that were released in 2017.

I guess I'm slacking.

It.seems like the in the board game industry i now have to wait a year before i play a game because no one i know is into kisckstarters or going to conventions.

My hot games of 2017 are from 2016 and are terraforming Mars and great western trail.

-sidereal is probably the best of the year for me so far
-gloomhaven is really impressive and fun, its just so fiddly and setup is such a bear that it makes it hard to hitthe table as often as id like, though its great when it does

It pains me but, purely out of elimination, The 7th Continent.
Just you wait till I get Aeon's End: War Eternal...

EDIT: Hey Vikings Gone Wild actually came out this year! Saved!

Care to explain PLS2? What is that, for the uneducated?

As for me, I think the only new release game I've played so far this year is Century Spice Road. Good fun, but not sure how to rate it compared to a bunch of other games I haven't played. Looking forward to Gloomhaven though - I backed the second print.

Does the re-release of Le Havre count? It was new to me and newly re-released for 2017.

Other new releases I played:
Raxxon - This would be my second choice if Le Havre doesn't qualify as a new release.
Near and Far
Wordsy - This would be my number 1 family game for 2017.
Plague Inc.: The Board Game
Arena: For the Gods! - My runner up.

New releases that are pending play:
Ethnos
Lisboa
Quests of Valeria
Yokohama
Gloomhaven
Massive Darkness

Lisboa and Massive Darkness are next on the to be played list.

Near and Far and Spirit Island top the list for me this year.

Though I haven't gotten to play Gloomhaven yet since I backed the second kickstarter.

My current top 5 of the year:

Gloomhaven
Barenpark
Codenames Duet
Photosynthesis
Sagrada

Definitely eager to play games like Clans of Caledonia, Gaia Project, Agra, Dinosaur Island, Pulsar 2849, Nusfjord, Azul, Ex Libris, and others. I'm guessing my list will look pretty different by the end of the year!

Only ones I've played that are listed so far are Yokohama and Spirit Island. Spirit Island is pretty good, but Yokohama was a snoozer.

My GOTY last year was Terraforming Mars, which I got in October, so there's still time. This year that game has continued to outshine just about everything else.
