First ever board game that merges the Superhero genre with the Financial World which gives a new perspective about debt management and financial scams

19 September 2017 – Capital Gains Studio (CGS) is proud to announce its exciting new project: Debtzilla, is now launched on Kickstarter (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1432027673/debtzilla?re...). Inspired by financial related themes whereby heroes confront financial monsters of mass destruction, Debtzilla is expected to launch in retail stores in Q2 of 2018. This is also CGS’s third board game with a financial theme.

Xeo Lye, co-founder of CGS and Debtzila designer, commented on the inspiration that led to the creation of Debtzilla, “When we first designed the Debtzilla card in our second game – Wongamania: Banana Economy, it was a personification of the 2007 financial crisis and the destructiveness of runaway debt. What we did not expect was for Debtzilla's popularity to grow tremendously. Many players had written in to request for Debtzilla to have its own game. This inspired us to create a game to highlight the dangers of debt, and some of the common scams and financial disasters that have destroyed people’s lives.”

Debtziila: With Great Power Comes Great Debt

Debtzilla is set up in the fictional nation of Banana Republic, last seen in CGS’s previous game – Wongamania: Banana Economy. Banana Republic’s incompetent government has now caused a wave of financial crime. Players will get to take on the role of heroes to fight villains who are rampantly stealing from ordinary citizens.

However, the heroes are at the same time everyday humans, with jobs to perform, daily expenses to pay, and now, crime-fighting gadgets to buy. Stingy players who are unwilling to spend will find their heroes too weak to fight the villains. On the other hand, purchasing too many expensive gadgets will rack up players’ debt, which will inadvertently be feeding the ultimate boss of mass destruction: Debtzilla.

Debtzilla is a cooperative deckbuilding game with escalation mechanics based on financial related concepts such as compounding interest and inflation. The players must work together to make smart financial decisions, and save Banana Republic from the rampage of financial monsters of mass destruction

Debtzilla Kickstarter Campaign

Debtzilla’s Kickstarter campaign is live from now to 22 October 2017. A prototype of Debtzilla is on display at We The People store at Millennia Walk.

Interested gamers and Kickstarter backers will also have the opportunity to play Debtzilla and meet up with the game’s chief designer and artists in upcoming events. Stay tuned to Capital Gains Studio’s Facebook page!
