Hosting a wine tasting party for my wife and would like to play some games. All folks who are gamer"ish". They tend to like things on the lighter side, but more than the typical non-gamer (that vague enough for you?).

Have played:
Telestrations
Wits and Wagers
Say Anything
Codenames

Any thoughts on a small step up game? 45-60 minutes max. I just picked up Cash and Guns but the theme doesn't work for these folks...

I'd be tempted to doThe Resistance: Avalon and come up with some wine or grail themed quests in advance for the ruler to send people on.

I would try Spyfall in this sort of situation, but the "improvisation" aspects don't work well with all groups.

Sushi Go Party! and Deception: Murder in Hong Kong

I would say Captain Sonar, but for this group I think the other two work better.

Bohnanza is great
It officially plays up to 7 but there's no component limitation preventing you from playing 8, although there are some variants to improve the experience and prevent it from being over too fast.

Today I played Tortuga 1667 twice at lunch and it was a fantastic experience! Each game lasted about 20-30 minutes so we played twice. The group was a combination of gamers and non-gamers and someone ordered it while we played and two of us (including myself) added it to our wishlists.

Camel Cup plays up to 8.
6 nimmt goes up to 10. Not really a party game, quickly explained and played.
Saboteur would be another easy card game for that size.
Citadels and Mascarade support 8 players but maybe a bit too involved for the occasion?
+1 for Resistance: Avalon if they are ok with bluffing and deduction.

Sushi Go Party!

Tsuro of the Seas (but 8 players is too many, at-least in regular Tsuro)

Roll for It, not sure how gamer or party it is, but it fills 8, and is a quick filler.

My suggestions are:

Las Vegas with the Las Vegas Boulevard expansion; plays 8 and all the non to light gamers I've played with have all asked to play again. May be hard to find though....

Dixit Odessy plays with that many

And another one my group likes is Timeline: Inventions or anything else in the Timeline Series. I would typically play with 4 sets of 2 partners if I had 8 people.

One Night Ultimate Werewolf or one of its variants.
Concept is good fun, works well as a team game too.

Without a doubt, The Resistance: Avalon. 8p is right in this game's sweet spot, and it is excellent. If I had 3 hours for gaming with 8 people, and Captain Sonar were not an option, I would play this the entire time.

Word on the Street sounds perfect. My 8p group who also loves Telestrations and Codenames also loved this one.

+1 Spyfall and Monikers

Secrets. Inclusive of explaining the rules, at 45-60 minutes you'll probably get two games in.

You could try Long Shot. It's a horse racing/betting game, that should do well in a party atmosphere.
