I'm so excited! I'm the new host of the school side of the Games in Schools and Libraries podcast.

http://www.inversegenius.com/kathleen-mercury

I'm going to host an episode a month, and I'm looking for guests!

I'm interested in all grade levels and depths of games used in the classroom, from specific games used to teach content to folks who teach game design like myself. Teachers, researchers, or any other permutation of using games in education. American, International, I'm interested in anything/everything.

Please let me know if you're interested. All you'll need is a computer with the ability to record audio (Garage Band or Audacity are great), headphones, and a microphone. I've had good results with my iPhone headphones with the attached mike, but gaming headsets or separate proper mikes/headphones are great.)

We'll do a little pre-interview communication so I can learn more about what you do, then conduct interviews over Skype (we will each record our own sides of the conversation, then email our files to the good folks who'll do the editing for us. It's easy peasy!

I'm excited for the opportunity to talk with more folks about how we use games in the classroom.

Yay!

Thanks! I'm super excited to be a part of it.

My friend Morgan calls me a Slytherpuff. I'm totally Slytherin (crafty, cunning, ambitious) but I also really love talking to people and getting to know them. So I think this fits the intersection of board games and talking about them rather well.

I am principal teacher of a Support for Learning faculty. I use games with pupils with Additional Support Needs and set up a games group to socialise some of our autistic pupils.

I wrote up my findings as part of a postgrad in Autism and received a distinction from the University of Birmingham for my troubles.

Hi Kathleen,

That sounds cool!

I use Risk & Diplomacy in my world history & geography II class that I teach.

I also use Twilight struggle & 1960: Making of a President in my Kennedy Years class. And speaking of JFK...

I also work part-time at the JFK Museum in Hyannis, MA where I am currently play-testing a Cuban Missile Crisis Simulation to be used for visiting school groups.

Keep me posted:)

I'm keen

I have been using board games to teach English at a Japanese university for the last three years, and just recently started a game design class in the same university, so I'm extremely interested in picking your brains on how to teach game design

let me know if you are interested in chatting!

EDIT: find out more about me (and my colleagues) here: http://www.japangamelab.org/

I run a board game club at my childrens' school. But you know how some people have a face made for radio? Well, I have a voice made for print.

I did want to say that I found your advice on running a board game club very helpful - and I'm looking forward to your podcasts!

Hi,

not sure if I can help. I've tried to use games in a variety of ways in the classroom, both in their native form and adapted to compliment specific topics or subjects. I'm likely to change schools shortly though, which will change pretty much everything in how I use games in the classroom.

I also ran a very simple board-game design club for my elementary students, which went pretty well, although I wasn't especially demanding in my criteria at that age.

Hi, Kathleen -

I teach at the college level and occasionally get to teach a play or game-related course (currently I'm teaching an honors seminar called "Humans at Play"). I'll be teaching my college's first ever game design course in Fall 2018. Hooray!

I also try to inject playful exercises in my other courses. For example, my research team and I are currently developing a playful approach to the lab component of a statistics course I teach that involves each group 'controlling' a Sims 4 scientist character who discovers and invents things as a result of students successfully solving stats problems. We're going to pilot that in Spring 2018 so perhaps a guest appearance a bit down the road I could talk about that.

Hi Kathleen,

We met at GenCon a few years ago. I teach the Literacy Tabletop Game Design Unit inspired by Lucy Calkins and I run a Middle School Tabletop Game Club (5 years this year). I've also expanded into the community with my club as well as helping support games in schools, etc.

If you'd want to talk about any of that, let me know. I'd be happy to support your podcast.

Sarah

I'm currently a 2nd grade teacher that gamified my classroom into an rpg using Classcraft. Years ago I taught Gifted middle school where I've taught text adventure video game programming. I've taught 5th grade classes where I taught board game and rpg design as part of the regular class. I run a strategy gaming club at my current school for 3rd through 5th graders where we do everything from Chess to the new Star Wars Legion miniatures game and the Star Wars rpg Force and Destiny. If you're interested let me know.

I know some folks who want to share their opinions and experiences aren't excited about talking into a can to having their voices appear on the internet. That's ok! We are also looking for blog submissions.

Blog articles can be of any length and we are open to a variety of content topics. It could be anything from "Here is a recap of a game program we ran" to just informing readers about games and resources you find particularly useful.

Our format is pretty wide open, posts can be as short as you need them to be as long as they make your point, but the inclusion of pictures is always a bonus, but please don't send pictures of people, doubly so minors, without a release.

If you have something you are interested in sharing with other teachers or librarians please let me know.

Hi Kathleen,

Ryan and I are high school teachers and we have a podcast called (Bridge City Boardgamers) Cardboard in the Classroom (and Cardboard Conjecture). Episode 1 sets the scene for who we are, where we're coming from, and the show's purpose.

We would love to collaborate on anything to do with board games in the classroom and in the library. We are currently planning an episode that talks about "How to start a board club in your school?"

We are Canadian and catholic ... so we say sorry a lot, and we feel very guilty about it.

Take care,

Norm

Hi Kathleen,

I'd love to be on your show. I have written a book on game-based learning and classroom gamification called "Level Up Your Classroom" and host a podcast on this very topic as well called Game Level Learn. It can be found at www.gamelevellearn.com/podcast.

Can't wait to hear back from you!

Jon
