Talisman can be a Long game.

This was true in the 2nd Ed., when the Crown of Command's Command spell only affected ONE opposing Player at a time and only 50% of the time.
This is still true in 4th Ed., when the Crown of Command's Command spel affetcs ALL opposing Players - but still only 50% of the time.
As there are several ways to restore life Points (healer, doctor, spells, potions, chapel etc) this can be VERY Long and agonizing.

Variant Victory condition:
If You start Your turn on the crown of command
and there is no other Player in the inner Region - You win!

Special Rule: When the first Player reaches the Crown of Command, the Portal of Power Closes for the rest of the game.

This works very well Have a try!

Reinhard

Note: What happens is - when first Player enters the inner Region, the others will have to hurry up, to pass the Portal before it closes. They may speculate, that the first Player will fail in the mines, the crypt or fighting the werewolf etc., but this is risky
There are a few ways to pass the Portal even if it is closed (Magic Portal may teleport You there, some extra boards bypass the Portal - but that is OK and intended and those ways are not easy to get to...

My friends like to do this variant. I don't like but will play it because I like to play Talisman. It is faster.

Do they also use the Closing of the Portal of Power?
Or do they just use the changed Victory Condition?

Interesting, how Talisman-Gamers come to similar Solutions to similar Problems, with this ortherwise great & classic game

We'll use the rule: whomever gets to the inner space first wins regardless of where anyone else is.

The Troll or warrior is the best one to use when doing it this way.

I quite like the Eternal Crown alternate ending from the Cataclysm expansion. It doesn't last more than a few rounds, but is similar enough to the original.

Hallo,

I don't know the Cataclysm expansion. How does the "Eternal Crown" work?

Sorry, I should have posted an image.

These are the Cataclysm expansion alt endings. It's the one on bottom right:

There's also the Crown and Sceptre ending in Frostmarch:
http://www.talismanwiki.com/Crown_and_Sceptre
It's pretty much "standard ending but much quicker"
Once someone reaches the Crown, no one else can gain/replenish life.
If you are alone on the Crown, you cast the Command spell, no die roll, it just works.
If someone else is on the Crown, you must fight (normal or Psychic, your choice).

I made my own, you get bonuses to cast the command spell, based on things you've completed or done in the game.

This chart looks very cool, but how does it work? I'm guessing you use the column of whichever row is best?

In other words, if you collect enough gold, then it wouldn't matter how many talismans, quests, or wanted posters you had.

Or do you use the worst column, forcing you to gain a balance of each thing?

Oh yeah, follow the row on the bottom, to cast the command spell at a better rate of success.

So if you get there with
4 completed quests, you win.
Or
4 completed wanted posters, you win.

And I threw in auto win of you have 4 talismans, to force players to hunt each other down.

Looking at it, I may change the first requirement to be 0-1 Talismans, since it is possible to get there without one.

I also should put the bottom table on the top row as well.

Any other suggestions?

I feel Woodlands > Destiny's should be represented.

To encourage more 'exploration' of the board, rather than just repeatedly hitting the same spaces, might want to make it an "and" bonus instead of an "or".

"For each of the following you are carrying/completed, you may add 1 to your Command Spell Roll:
*Talisman's 2+
*Wanted Posters 3+
*Quests 3+
*Gold 16+
*Fate 10+
*Destinys 2+

Command Roll results:
1-3 Nothing
4-7 Each other player loses 1 life
8-10 Each other player loses 2 life
11+ Each other player loses 3 life

If you end your turn with 4+ Talismans you instantly win the game."

I like your idea!
And in a direction I wasn't even thinking.

I like this sort of idea. You get rewarded at the Crown of Command if you accomplish certain things during your quest.

I'm thinking of something like this:

Add 1 to your roll on the Crown of Command chart for each of the following:

Encountering the Lord of Darkness
Encountering the Eagle King
Encountering the last space on the Woodland Realm board (I think. It's been a long time since we've played with it.)
Turning in a Wanted Poster for gold
Getting Turned into a Toad for three turns
Each Warlock's Quest completed after the first

Any three of these would get you an auto success on the Crown of Command.

Cheers!

Chris

This is an excellent idea, possibly the best talisman variant I have seen. I think I might even extend it.

Thanks Gabriel. I wanted to keep it as simple as possible, so an extension would be cool. Of course, it hasn't been tested, but let me know if you do.

Cheers!
