The other day I was writing something and wanted very much to use "Nosferatu" as a verb. I paused and looked at my beautiful sentence. It was perfect, and I knew exactly what I meant... but I was also pretty sure no one else would. Stained with melancholy, I backspaced through it and went with a weaker, thinner verb, one that no doubt wormed its anaemic way through far more minds.

And I've been telling everyone about it ever since.

Poll
Nosferatu as a Verb
I totally know what you mean!
I think I know what you mean?
I'm lost—oh sweet pain, the dimming... the dimming...
Great, now I have to go on a Google safari.
That's "Orlok'd" to you, bub.

Today I was tasked with making a poster featuring an ear. For a dining survey. A waxy, hairy, disgusting ear. In association with, you know, food.

Finally, I emailed my boss that, "I Roy Lichtenstyled it."

No, the 'Come in and bend our ear" line was not my fault.

True dat.
Even in Italian (and I would assume other languages), it was given a "regular first indicative" verb status; i.e googlare ("to google") in the infinive.
Thus, it conjugates as:

io googlo (I google)
tu googhli (You (sing.) google)
lui/ lei google (He/ she googles)
noi googhliamo (We google)
voi googlate (You (plur.) google)
loro googlono (They google)

I believe that the extra H is required in the "tu" and "noi" forms, in order to cause the hard G sound before LI. Because the normal combination of letters GLI is a common one, and pronounced something like l-YEE.

With lui/ lei, google is pronounced "goo-GLAY", as there are no silent Es in Italian, so E sounds like a long A.

I do this quite often.
When questioned I usually run with - this is why English is such a useful language.
Or
Shakespeare did it all the time and no-one gives him a hard time.

student: does that mean we can use that word in the essay?
Me: no freaking way.

I stayed at some place that was remote and in the mountains. I found it on Air B&B. Was a dank creepy joint but I had to crash for the night and get some zzz's. When I woke up in the mornin I had a couple puncture holes in my neck I thought is was from some spider or somethin cause the place was such a dump. Come to find out a couple of days later I can't go in the sun or eat my favorite garlic pizza. I think that clown who owned the B&B Nosferatu'd me.

Well, dang—based on the poll so far, it looks like I could've used it after all!

Spread the word:

Nosferatu | nōs fer ä to͞o |

verb (past Nosferatu'd)

1 to rise from a lying position by hinging at the heels, especially from a coffin or crypt: on the morning of the Disneyland trip, the toddler Nosferatu'd out of bed.

I imagined to be noferatud to mean to be waylaid or detained by an elderly person with suspicious motives.

As in:

My ex-girlfriend's creepy uncle nosferatu'd me for three hours when he asked me to look at a leaky tap and then insisted on showing me his entire collection of celebrity hair.

I am totally going to use this at work but maybe give it a different meaning each time known only to myself.

Me: Your computer Nosferatu'd itself.
Them: Huh?
Me: Yeah, I think I know how to fix it without Renfielding it even further.
Them: What?
Me: Did you backup your data?

I could probably understand it if you revealed if it was transitive or intransitive. I.e. "I nosferatud this game!" or "I was SO nosferatud!" versus "Well, why don't you nosferatu?" or "I feel like nosferatuing a bit!".

In the former case, I think I know what you mean. In the latter case, I'm pretty unsure.

I'd have phrased it, "on the morning of the Disneyland trip, the toddler went instantly from lying in bed asleep to standing ready to go, like Nosferatu rising from his coffin."

Nosferatu is why vampire bite marks on the victim's neck are two small puncture wounds close together. Nosferatu had large fang front teeth, not the big canine's that later Draculas had. Basically a venomous rabbit style attack.

If you were bitten by Dracula canine teeth, you'd have marks wide apart. But because in Nosferatu they were close together, that's what they copied.
