Haven't played yet.. How exactly does the farm work? I'm not sure how to get additional seeds for the farm.

My understanding thus far is that you can just take a research action to create a new seed, but you can only do that if you have enough greenhouses. If you are playing a game with two players and two greenhouses, you couldn't create a new seed because you only have two greenhouses. As far as good, your greenhouses produce one food for each mature plant during the production phase.

Planting new seeds, and building new greenhouses for them to go back in, are mission specific actions.

The mission sheets will tell you when you can do this, and how to do it.

The research action is just for planting the seed. You need to get a seed from somewhere first. It would be specifically from the mission if it's available.

As indicated above, you only get new seeds if the mission states you do. To explain how the farm works: you typically start the game with a number of greenhouses and a number of plants equal to the number of players in the game. The greenhouses are the maximum number of plants you can have; each plant in a greenhouse provides one food each round for your astronauts. If you ever need more food than the number of plants available in greenhouses, you will consume food from the general supply.

Sometimes, either because of an event or because a part is broken in the greenhouse, you will have wilting. This means during the production phase you'll take one plant from a greenhouse and move it to the top of the growth track; next turn you will move it down one place and take another plant from a greenhouse, etc., for as long as wilting is occurring. If a plant would go down past the bottom of the growth track, it dies permanently. Plants that are not in greenhouses don't make food. If the wilting is stopped, then growth occurs - it's the opposite action. If a mission gives you a seed, you can take a research action to plant it and it will go up the growth track (as long as wilting is not happening) each round during production, and once it goes past the top it goes into a greenhouse and will make food next round.

If wilting would occur because either the oxygen or power part is broken in your farm, you can pay an oxygen or power (respectively) from the general supply to prevent it; if you have plants on the growth track, they will grow instead.
