we played the other night and Leta was the first djinn selected.
The player was easily able to get all 5 of the fabulous cities with ease, having a 100 point win over 2nd and third place.

there was no way we could even stop him.

Clear fabulous city, match white, slap camel down. Wash Rinse Repeat.

anyone else have this experience?

You could try getting all Elders (white meeples) before the player with the Leta Djinn.

Though frankly, the bonus from the fabulous cities feels a bit unbalanced (I've mentioned it in several threads).shake

I'd suggest halving the points received from the cities,or just giving 5 points per tile.

i dont think the points themselves are unbalanced... as the bid will usually control this sort of thing... you have to bid higher to get an obvious major bump in points... but once all the meeples have been removed from the tiles the DJINN allows you to get the points outside the bid system, you can bid 0 and just take them without fear of them dissappearing, unless a very special set of circumstances exist which would allow someone to put meeples back on that tile.

Outside of this expansion I rarely used the bidding system, mostly because my opponent never left any great moves (yes, even in 2 player games).

The fabulous cities were added to "remedy" this.
This change made the game nastiergulp

As for the Leta djinn - if the player doesn't have white meeples, he can't use the djinn. Moreover, you could try to take the fabulous cities before he does. (by cooporating with the 2nd player)

There are 21 white meeple available at game start... white meeple denial isnt exactly feasible to do from the opening turn.
Maybe from the midpoint on, sure, but if leta is one of the first 3 djinns available.

It would be very difficult for the Leta player to both empty a fabulous city AND get elders at the same time (making his moves less efficient); so the first strategy would be to remove all such elders (that are close to the city tiles).
Moreover, if he empties a fabulous city, the other players can collaborate so that one of them would take over-it (i.e. one player would pass through the empty city tile, and the other player would put a same colored-meeple on it).

In other words, this thing is overpowered and unbalanced - it takes two players just to slow the Leta-player down; and in the process integrates king-making and partnerships into the gamecry

There was similar concern with Utug, to which the game-designer answered:

UTUG + fabulous cities is not overpowered, because, to be in position to get these cities, you need to have a lot of elders + fakir cards. Which is not that easy.

So, if this combo comes early into the game, you opponents still have the opportunity to run for elders / fakirs, end to empty fabulous city tiles

yes, well Bruno is correct with UTUG, it is easier to simply clear the tiles to respond to him. It is not so easy to repopulate the tile to prevent Leta.
