Just backed the game and I'm very excited.

Question: Can you play with 2 players one session.. then 4 players the next session? Then go back to 2 players etc. ?

Thanks!

Because the game takes so long to play, the rules do indeed explicitly account for players (characters) coming and going across sessions. So, to answer your question: yes.

Yes, players can come in and go back easily.

You can't save a game then start another game and go back to the saved one though (except using saving file).

You can but the players won't see you progress and will miss on most of the exploration. But you can. Rules are included specifically for that.

Players can come in or leave at any point except in the middle of an action (and actions themselves are very short - a few seconds of pulling cards and applying effects).

Yes, one way to use the save files in the files section is to perform a save like you would in a video game. If you are at a good point where you want to save, you can document it and then proceed forward. If you die, you would easily decide to revert to your last save and start from there vs. starting from the beginning.

I'm not saying that is what the designers intended, but it is a totally valid way to use those save files and reduce the bad feelings of dying afte 15 hrs of play.
