the rules state that you can never roll more than 3 of any color of dice, even if you have the gear to do so, so extra dice are solely for convenience

The rule can be found on page 17 of the manual, which states:

Quote:
A dice roll can include up to 3 dice of each color. Any exceeding amount is lost. Any dice penalty is applied after the 3 dice cap is reached.

I have been waiting for the dice sets to go on sale, so that each player can have their own set. Unfortunately, I can't find them for pre-order yet.

I wonder if the 3 dice limitation was borne out of component limitation or deliberate design.

It's actually a nice balancing mechanic on gear where gears that give yellow/blue dice can be more desirable than red/green.

I am playing with the idea to implement more dice to the game.
2 sets of dice to be precise. So max of 5 or 6 of each colors.

I wonder, if it makes the game more interesting or challenging.

for our games we have removed the dice cap for enemies but kept it for heroes. makes it harder and more rewarding

We do the same in story mode.
In one shot games we give our enemies a +1 sword for each dice over 3 they would roll.

I came on here to find out if anyone was selling the plain dice that came with the core box to remedy this situation.

Should have read the rules a bit better!

Cheers
Mark

It will make the game easier. The players through item collection can exceed 3-dice of a color a lot easier than a roaming monster plus a piece fo random gear.

While I wouldn't presume to tell you what rules to use, the dice cap prevents even more crazy item/monster synergies which would make the monsters absolutely unbeatable. One can imagine a monster with 5-7 green defense dice.

Yes potentially, it could help the players too, but I'd be worried about it. CMON wants to sell add on dice packs (and they no doubt will) but a lot more people would buy them if you COULD use more than the standard number right? I figure they would have made the rules work that way if they could have so they could sell more dice.

However, I'm very interested in how it goes for you. Please report on how your tests go. It's a useful experiment.
