Flip City is a light and attractive deckbuilder about building cities. The novel element is that all cards are double-sided; if a certain cost is paid, cards can be upgraded into more powerful variants. It supports up to four players, but is best played with one or two.

The game's look is bright and breezy, and the card images connect together when placed side by side - a nice touch. The graphic design is clear and easy to understand, with only a couple of more esoteric symbols which will require a glance at the rulebook, at least during early games.

Because the level of player interaction is fairly low and because turns can take a little time, some may feel that Flip City is best suited to solo play. With any number of players, the integration of flipping cards with a push-your-luck aspect and interesting card powers makes for a light but fun and thoughtful game worthy of repeat plays.

Pros

• Bright, clear graphic design
• Easy to learn, but with a few possible strategies

Cons

• Near-constant movement of cards can be laborious in solo play
• Not ideally suited more than two players
