Is it within the rules and legal to create a stack of 7 or even 8 pieces in the 6-stack variant? By my interpretation of the rules I am thinking no because even though the gray/speckled pieces are “wild” they are still supposed to represent another of the five possible playing colors not already in the stack or to be a color of its own right (gray). With more than 6 would you not technically have a duplicate color in the stack? The new littlegolem.net implementation seems to allow this and I'm thinking it's a bug!

You are never allowed to have a stack with more than one piece of a single color. So, no, there is no legal way to have a stack of greater than 6 pieces.

A stack of 6 pieces is the limit, because of the "different color"-rule.
Gray pieces cannot represent colors that are not present on the game.

Not true. with 3 jokers a height of 8 is possible. It's explicit that
using multiple jokers to achieve a height of 6 is permitted.

That's because jokers are wild, and therefore represent one of the missing colors. When you already have all five colors plus the joker as a sixth color, there are no more colors in the game. A height of 8 is not possible.

Apparently Kris Burm emailed Richard of LittleGolem about this. A stack of six is the limit.
