People give me stuff. Yesterday I was given an undrinkably peaty bottle of Scotch (Lagavulin 16). Today I was given this:

Any guesses as to species? I have a strong suspicion, but haven’t done the research to confirm.

‘Tis a handsome skull.

Not the greatest pic, but the the skull measures about 11 cm (a bit more than 4 inches) in length.

Yeah, that's a somewhat cattish skull. A large feral, or perhaps a Maine coon, I suspect.

It's a cat skull - large for a domestic cat, but not super big. Assuming it is from an adult animal : feral male? Maine Coon?

Undrinkable? Islay malts, of which Lagavulin is one, are my favourite / favorite whiskies.

It takes all people...

I think that all right-thinking people in this country are sick and tired of being told that ordinary, decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am.

I had the same reaction the first (and only) time I tried the Lagavulin 16. Years ago I was into single-malt whisky (still am) and bought a bottle because it was one of the highest-rated whiskys around. My first taste made me think the bottle had gone bad. I tried tasting it again a week later, and it was still just as bad. I tried adding a bit of water to thin it down, but that just made the peaty aroma stronger. I finally gave up on it, and decided that island and/or peaty whiskys are not for me. A few weeks later I presented the nearly-full bottle to a friend who likes the stronger stuff and he couldn't thank me enough. I'm glad someone enjoyed it.

Since then I have stuck with lowland and highland malts, and have had much better success with those.

I am not going to go as far as to say that Lagavulin 12 or 16 is "undrinkable", but its overly strong peaty flavor makes it one of the single malts that I will only do every three years or so. I need to give my nasal passages time to recover after but a small bit of it.

I love Laphroaig et al but find Lagavulin has an odd graphite taste that doesn’t appeal to me like the other Islays do.
