I have a sealed box of First Edition Print starter decks for this game. I have no idea how many starter decks are in the box...it doesn’t say...guessing about 24 maybe?

Edit...looking at odd design of original box, may only be ten decks. Can someone confirm?

Would I be better off selling them as a single unit, opening them and selling them as individual starters or opening them all and taking a chance on what I find?

I never played it and I’m not a specialist so I have no idea on price, but it’s still less than 50p a card...and it’s not going to get any less rare any time soon.

Out of interest though, what would you say is ”fair”?

BattleTech isn't a "hot" old game. Nobody will ever pay that price, not for the base set anyway. You can easily divide the price by 4.

I would agree with the assumption that it isn't a "hot" game. Don't ask me why though, as I usually see people on ebay trying to push sealed product for $100/200 bucks.

Anyways, liking the game as I do I would also contend that it is a game where strategy is much more important than deck-building, (at least for the CCG standard) so it's not like there is a market for people out there hunting for expensive rares. Pretty much anybody that has played the game acknowledges that you can get by with commons/uncommons. Which does lower the price of the game for those in the know.

I'd gather that the later releases (mechwarrior, commander's Ed.) fetch a higher price, but that's about it.

Hi Not my best investment then I guess, since at an original RRP of $8.95 a deck or £6.40 at current exchange rates I’d be making a loss!

I’ll leave it up, might get lucky. I’ll consider offers, but not as low as a quarter of current price.

Took a peek at the listing and I noticed it was the premiere edition starters (or whatever it was called) with the weird trapezoid box and the included d6. So that might actually be a bit more appealing as a box set to someone. To be honest however, no one would buy those for the cards so I would advice to crack the display open and sell the starters per piece.

Looking at the marketplace listings for Battletech CCG is a bit of a doozy, I got a 1400 card lot for 39.99... sometimes people think they are sitting on a gold mine, but methinks the market is just not there for this one.

The game is really good btw. A somewhat neglected Garfield evolution of the design stuff he tried in Jyhad & Netrunner built around purely combat-based game.

This. It's a really good CCG that never got the accolade it should have. Netrunner is a better design, and Jyhad is a better multiplayer game, but Battletech captures the spirit of the boardgame perfectly and is a very tense, well-balanced CCG. It probably has a better core game engine than MTG.

Very much so. In fact the best advice to the OP would be to play your game!

Thanks Alex for answering my original question! I’ll leave it up for a week or so then maybe see if I want to open it and relist ten separate decks.
