Hi all,

Yesterday we tried our first time to play Civilization (newest version) but we got stuck during the gameplay as some things were not clear to us. Could someone please help with the following questions?

1. Army, so you start the game with 3 random unit cards (infantry, mounted and artillery). You get the option during the city management round to buy units. We were wondering if this was a flag and a card or do you have to choose between a flag and a card? Is there a maximum of cards you can purchase?

Units that get killed are being deposit back into the market or do we need to lay them aside untill all units are gone and then reshuffle the stack per type of unit?

2. Egypt starts with a wonder in their capital. Is this wonder openly picked from the first 4 wonders or does the person needs to randomly pick this wonder (closed to them)? We assume you can only pick 1 of the first era wonders.

Many thanks for your reply in advance!

Cheers

Apopolis

1. Be careful in confusing "units' (cards) with "figures." "Units" represent assembled types of troops (infantry, mounted or artillery) that are available for each army "figure" sent into battle. You may buy either with a city action. New figures are useful if you want to send more armies to different areas of the map, or combine them into higher strength fighting armies. More units are needed in order to replenish those killed in battle so you have enough to draw 3 for a single figure or more with multiple figures in a single army. For example, with two figures gong to battle you may draw 5 unit cards instead of 3, so it doesn't do you any good to combine figures until you have more than 3 unit cards. New figures cost 4 hammers regardless of technology level. New units cost from 5-11 depending on rank (tech levels I-IV). Artillery costs 12.

2. Egypt starts with a RANDOM wonder. This is explained in other threads or maybe in one of the FAQs. So take the four random ancient wonder cards, shuffle them and let Egypt draw one for its starting wonder, then replace it with the first medieval wonder from the stack.

Hope this helps.

You either produce one combat unit (card), OR one army figure (flag) per city action.

Discard faceup to the bottom of the pile, and shuffle once depleted.

Egypt starts with one random ancient wonder from the market, which left the market with 3 ancient and 1 medieval wonder at the start of the turn.

I am so jealous of you being new to the game, you are going to have some great memories. Game on and get the two expansions.

Go to play by forum section and check out the tournament that the top players participated years back! It was so well ran and fun. Those were the golden days, I miss it. You will learn so much about the rules.
