If the US got hit by a nuke-EMP or an 1859-style Solar Storm
the US would be like Puerto Rico electricity-wise
and all the resulting untended spent fuel ponds and cooling tanks would boil off their water and burn.zombie

P.R.'s reactor was decommisioned in 1964.

I know this is what WND preaches... but is it true? Anyone know of reliable analysis on the EMP risk?

Well, yes, it's obviously true. Just basic physics, really. Also, the Soviets tested it. And we did, too, accidentally.

Edit: to clarify, it would actually be quite a bit worse than Puerto Rico's current situation, as they have electronic devices that WORK - just little means to charge them, with the grid down. The E1 component of an large thermonuclear HEMP detonation would actually fry all electronic components, regardless of their connection to the grid or not - your cell phone/laptop/whatever internal components turn into slag metal, basically. Vehicle engines and generators with electric starters or components won't run anymore, etc.

It's very, very bad, which is why both the US and Soviets pretty much immediately agreed to ban testing them, on discovering these effects to even 1960s-level technology.
