We just got our Promo 3 pack, and are thinking of new ways to play mimicry. Right now, our idea is to have the mimicry card indicate that a species is either poisonous/venomous, OR is a harmless species using Batesian mimicry. If the species is revealed to be noxious, then the carnivore that attacked the species loses one population (as with Horns), or if it is a pack hunter, the entire attacking species goes extinct. We aren't sure yet how to determine whether the species is harmless or not...current ideas include rolling a die post attack, or drawing another card and letting the food number determine if the species is harmful or not(e.g. even number means harmless, odd means harmful). Would this work, or would it throw off the balance of the game? Should a Mimicry card only be playable in this way for a single round?

I think it killing the entire species if pack hunter is overpowered. If no other reason when the first few die the rest probably hold back. Regardless I would suspect the determination of poison was a one time deal and not a reroll after each attack.

Thanks for the reply! Do you think it would be okay to make 2-3 pack hunters die, or should we just stick with one carnivore casualty regardless of the pack hunter trait?

To be noted, bringing in new mechanics for a single card would make that card stand out. Since card draws and dice rolls aren't used for any other trait, it would feel unnatural.

That being said, Intelligence and Fat Tissue both introduce new mechanics. So it's not like you can't do it, just be aware that it would more than likely catch new players off guard. However, Intelligence and Fat Tissue do use existing components (trait cards and Food tokens), so to follow suit it would likely run smoother if you used the card draw (or some other existing component).

That's a great point. We should probably do the card draw, then Thanks for the reply!
