Montgomery and any of his battles in operational scale, preferably from the his early days in WWII, to let him know why "craven" would not be an insult.

Roosevelt and 1989 to let him know how he f-ed up whole eastern Europe with his notion of "unconditional surrender".

Stalin and Stalin's War--I would let Germans besiege Moscow, never evacuate Stalin's counter out of it, let the old crazy bastard die in the siege and watch his reaction.

If I'm playing with something from my collection, I'd pick someone that's been dead a very long time. (The recently deceased tend to leave nasty smudges.)

My father. (he died about 13 years ago)

I would love to spend some more time with him.

I would probably play World in Flames because it is a very long game.

He enjoyed playing board games.

Somewhat more seriously, my late brother Steve, Warriors of God, using his copy which he never got a chance to punch and which I have now. I think for obvious reasons.

I know it's not what the OP expected but I would follow this example too. My brother was always a PC gamer and enjoyed wargames. We started getting into board wargames and it was going to be the start of something good but he lost his battle with cancer about a year later. We did play Tide of Iron but I think I would like to play Combat Commander with him.

As previously mentioned, Dad.

One of the games from my childhood... Broadside? Combat? ACW miniatures? Doesn't matter.

And I would let him win.

Pretty much any. They wouldn't be too annoying, and probably would be
really lousy.

On the down side though, they might take a long ass time to finish a turn.

When it is your turn to send a VASSAL move, the wait is excruciating. When it's my turn, well, I've been busy.

My Dad, for sure. Never had the chance (I was only 6) but my mom and older brother have said this is the sort of thing he would have loved.

Failing that, Amateurs to Arms! or Mr. Madison's War: The Incredible War of 1812 with Sir Isaac Brock, since he never got to see how the rest of the war played out..

We would play several different Bulge games. He would be the Germans. It would be like Ground Hog day.

2) The Plot to Assassinate Hitler
3) I'd make him play the Abwehr, so to win the game he'd have to assassinate himself. And I wouldn't try very hard as the SS player.

Serious: My Dad. I don't think I ever played a board game with him. We'd play D-Day, my first wargame. And I'd beat him because he didn't play games!

Not Serious: Abraham Lincoln, The Civil War, and I'd make him play the Confederates. devil

I think it's incredibly honest and touching. My dad would never have wanted to play games like this with me, but I'd love to have him throw around the baseball or football with my son or go golfing with us, so I totally get it and appreciate the sentiment.

Great responses up and down the list...including the Zombie ones...

4.5 hours and no one has said "Napoleon" yet LOL

I bet he would be awesome at any version of Waterloo, harhar.

Another cheesy obvious one ... JFK, Twilight Struggle ("It's notawargame!").

No seriously, how'bout ....

Tricky Dick Nixon and 1960: The Making of the President

Or ...

Khruschev, Objective Moscow: The Death of Soviet Communism

Or ...

Reagan, Invasion: America or World at War: America Conquered ... even though Fortress America was probably more his speed.

Somewhat more seriously ...

George S. Patton, Operation Unthinkable: Churchill's World War III

________________

And dibs on this one for after he's no longer with us ....

Sean Connery, The Hunt for Red October

One ping only, Yevgeniy ...
