Not exactly a household name in America, but Alfa Romeo steals the show as Motor Trend Car of the Year.

I actually managed to wrangle a test drive of an Alfa Romeo 4C from a dealer. According to the sticker, it gets decent gas mileage but has a tiny tank (like 10 gallons) so you wont get much more than 200-250 miles out of a full tank. It has snug seats, is low to the ground, is difficult to get into and out of if you are not "the right size" (under 6 feet tall and under 250 lbs.), and has no room for anything other than you and a potential passenger. However, it has excellent giddy-yup for a 4 banger (it does have a turbocharger) and handles nicely. At just around $60K, it is an affordable Italian import/performance car. But I don't fit into it well and still have 3 more kids to put through college...
