Preparing for play
The allied player places all of the RFPF counters face down and mixes them thoroughly. He then places one RFPF unit, selected randomly, in each city on the map except for Saigon. Neither he nor the VC/NVA player may examine the strength of an RFPF unit until it is attacked.
The map legend is unclear as to the color coding of provinces. All brown provinces, of any shade, are highland provinces.
All green provinces of any shade are lowland provinces, except for those which have the swamp pattern.
All green provinces with the swamp pattern are delta. This black pattern is difficult to see on the darker shades of green, but are only three delta provinces on the map: Provinces 42, 43 and 44.
Along the boundary between the 1st and 2nd Corps Tactical Zone, Province 15 appears to extend slightly south of the corps boundary. This is incorrect. Province 15 end at the corps boundary. The narrow stripe of light green territory south of the corps boundary is part of Province 22.
