I'm thinking of picking up Diamant to go with Telestrations and Codenames as a game for game night when we have three other couples over, most of whom are non or light gamers. How would it do with that sort of crowd? Also, I see there are a number of editions available. Which one do you guys recommend? Thanks!

It's an ideal game for 6-8 as there's no downtime unless you've chosen to exit the temple early - in which case you are actively involved in trash talking the remaining players and chanting for the second snake card to appear.

I love it kind of at the 6 mark, but it plays beautifully from 5-8 IMO.

Of the editions available now, I like the iello edition the best.

Plays great with eight since there are no turns (best with more players actually). Great for new or non gamers. We've had a number of people go out and buy it afterwards. People who don't like games of chance might not like it though, but it is more than just luck. You have to read the other players and guess what there actions might be especially with higher player counts.

I'd probably stick to lowest cost for version, but if costs were comparable I'd go with the latest Diamant version (if you can get it for a reasonable price). I have the Incan Gold version from way back and that came with cheapo tent cards you have to fold in half. (I uploaded a better version of tent cards on BGG, but the newer Gryphon Games edition comes with better tents, but still not as nice as the carts in Diamant.

The new Iello Diamant is so much nicer than Incan Gold, and I own both. Yes, it is more expensive.

best looking version and bits by far.

we also play and yeah even when you're out, unless you leave the first tile or two, there's not much of a wait and you're goading them into another tile every time

I can skip two big macs and suffer even less! whistle

(Interesting: BoardGameBliss in Canada now charges $8 CAD more for the English version than the French, for a language independent game.)
